Could 2015 get any better for college football fans? We finally witnessed the first college football playoff that was a smashing success. Now comes this bit of news…

According to Sports Business Journal, ESPN is moving Mark May off College Football Final.

ESPN will reportedly name a new trio for the much-maligned program that once featured Rece Davis hosting fake grade school courtroom debates between May and Lou Holtz. But with Holtz retired and Davis promoted to hosting College GameDay, ESPN has finally (thankfully) decided to go in a brand new direction for the show. Adnan Virk will host and be joined by analysts Danny Kanell and Joey Galloway. The trio will appear on both ABC and ESPN for halftime and postgame coverage.

As for May, you haven’t seen the last of him completely – he will reportedly link up with John Saunders and Mack Brown for a different show. (Perhaps for ABC’s college football coverage as that’s where Saunders and Brown were stationed last year with Kanell.) Regardless, removing May’s toxicity from one of ESPN’s flagship college football shows will be a gigantic breath of fresh air for college football fans as College Football Final is the weekly wrap-up show that most fans naturally gravitate towards.

May’s continued prominence as a college football analyst has highlighted the worst of ESPN the last few years – showcasing ā€œlook-at-meā€ personalities who troll, scream, and shout for attention and can’t be trusted to give a fair shake to viewers. For ESPN’s sake, the network should hope these moves mean none of their analysts will get booed off the stage at the National Championship Game in 2016 and they can win back fans who abandoned the network’s studio coverage because of May’s antics.

And for the new faces of College Football Final, this opportunity represents a reward for consistent, high quality work. Virk is one of the most talented anchors and hosts working at ESPN and has proven to be something of a super-utility man capable of hosting anything on the network – from Olbermann to Mike & Mike – with excellence. Now he finally has the chance to be the permanent host of one of ESPN’s top studio shows in a move that is long overdue. Galloway has been working as a game analyst for the network, but he really shined when moved to the studio in analyzing the College Football Playoff this past winter. The one question mark might be whether or not Kanell can tone down the anti-SEC rhetoric that he leaned upon last year. Aside from that, he’s a very good analyst who connects with the audience and has proven himself as more than just a college football analyst, subbing on ESPN Radio multiple times. While not on May’s level of years-long trolling of Ohio State and other fanbases, Kanell should be cautious and learn from his predecessor on just how easy it is to take those feuds with fanbases too far and become the story himself.

It’s almost like ESPN was reading our minds as we called on Bristol to move in a new direction with College Football Final back in February, suggesting May be replaced by Galloway and Virk be named host. In this single talent restructuring, ESPN turned College Football Final from one of the shows I would most want to avoid at ESPN to one of the shows I would most want to watch. That’s how positive this change is for the program and for ESPN’s college football coverage as a whole.

Terrible mistake by ESPN. And btw, if you thought the homerisms of F$U and OSU were bad, they'll probably be amped up ten times since there's no one there who has no problem speaking his mind like May did.

I may watch Bama highlights on the show, but that'll probably be it. I can't stand those two idiots, Kannell and Galloway.

Personally, I am going to miss May. At least he had an opinion about the college football game and he shared it, right or wrong. As far as Holtz, I am going to miss him for about a tenth of a second. Of course, Rece will be missed by me. I always loved the banter back and forth between May and Holtz. Hopefully, the new trio will bring a fresh outlook on the game we all love.

ESPN has the SECN to cater to 25% of the country. They are going to cater to the other 75%. Who hate the other 25% about as much as can be hated.

It is not coincidental that Kanell took on his his Anti-SEC personality at the advent of the SECN. ESPN knew what they were doing.

Big mistake, because Mark May wasn't as bad as half these idiots whining about him think. It was Lou Holtz that was the one you truly can't stand. May always have off pretty good analysis from my eyes. Now we get saddled with Danny freaking Kannel for whom nobody gives a shit about. Guess I'll just watch the late PAC-12 game I stead of College Gamenight now. The ratings for this show is going to plummet without Davis, Holtz, and May, as I think everyone is expecting.

I liked May a lot. I especially liked the faces and banter he had with Holtz and his (Holtz) crazy predictions. The douche bags of Summers Eve (Kannel) and Massengil (Galloway) will make this post game show very difficult to watch.

who is willing to admit they will still watch the show and then come here and complain about the opinions

Wont be watching unless at halftime of Bama game or another big game and then probably wont listen:naught:

May and Holtz had a fun back and forth and I am sure the cameraman had fun with wiping off the lens every two minutes from Holtz. I enjoyed Reece playing the straight man but lets face neither Galloway or Kannell is straight. Maybe ESPN being the liberal spinning media mogul they are just needed to have a couple of fags on TV to avoid looking bias.:moon:

They both have made their way up by bashing the SEC so lets see what they do now..

The one hour late edition of the show, which also is rebroadcast early Sunday mornings, is a pretty quick and easy way to keep up with games that are missed on Saturday nights...especially those on the West coast.

The "sketches" they've done over the past few years weren't what drew to me watch and neither are the opinions voiced on the show.

I was a big fan of the show and was the only show I watched on that network, but now that they don't have those three on there I won't be watching it. Kanell and Galloway are horrible just horrible, they're almost as bad as their recruiting douche Luginbill.....they might even be worse than him. Neither one of them can stand the SEC and don't miss a chance to talk crap about it, so there's that, but their abilities are just horrible.
