šŸˆ ESPN Host Colin Cowherd Says Big 12 Will Evaporate, With Oklahoma Joining SEC, Texas To Pac-12

Ahh, conference realignment. Always a fun topic in college sports, right?

The major wave of realignment has passed, but new rumors and possibilities continue to creep up in the media and on message boards. The latest report comes from ESPN talk show host Colin Cowherd, who sees the Power Five becoming the Power Four, at the expense of the Big 12.

Well, this is certainly an interesting scenario to consider. Keep in mind, Oklahoma University President David L. Boren recently said he would like to see the Big 12 expand to 12 teams, but the dissolution of the conference could benefit the overall landscape of college football better, as it would even out the number of conferences competing for playoff spots.

Right now, this all just conjecture, but if we’ve learned anything about the world of conference realignment, it is to be prepared for anything.

It sure is amazing what the media can do with one man's comments during the slow days of summer.

But, just for fun.... Who (if any) would you like to see join the SEC from the shakeup that would happen....

I'm not looking for other teams to come to the SEC as members.... but West Va would be one that make better sense that the others (Saban - as I understand it - wanted WVU instead of Missouri.)

Kind of makes sense from a national perspective. Personally I would like the two Oklahoma schools, but 16 schools would make for very cumbersome scheduling in football and basketball.

Using arguments that I have seen advanced in other expansion talks, though, neither the two Oklahoma schools nor the couch burners makes any sense from the viewpoint of greater exposure in major population centers. As 252 said, the idea is dead for now.

Something I thought that would be a cool set up is this..... For argument sake, we have 5 conferences with 16 teams. (80 teams total) If you are in the big 5 all of your games have to be played within the big 5. Go to a 10 team conference schedule. For the sake of explanation I will use Bama as an example.

First do like in Basketball and do away with divisions, however allow each team to have 4 regular opponents. For us: Auburn, UT, LSU, Ole Piss. That would leave you with 6 conference opponents. Do a home and home with those 6 and then rotate them off. Pick up the other 6 conference opponents for a home and home after the rotation of the first 6.

By doing something like this we could come into an agreement with the other power 5 conferences and have teams like Texas and aTm resume their rivalry without being in the same conference. That could be one of their OOC games with one of the power 5. This would also allow for conferences to pick up a team they really want without having to pick up the red headed step brother. Say like OU comes to the SEC and OSU goes to the Big10. They could keep their rivalry without being in the same conference.

The biggest issue I see with doing away with divisions is the fact of a championship game. I think there is movement headed towards deregulation of NCAA requirements for the conference championship games. BIG XII has started this because of not having enough teams right now to have a championship game.......either way take the two best teams from the conference and let them play for the title. Yes, we will have repeat games from the regular season, but that has already happened and it will still happen even with divisions.
