Anybody notice that the Alabama helmet on the Gameday set has a white face mask? Either poor ESPN quality control or somebody made a change that the fan base won't be happy with.

I've been flipping back and forth between Gameday and SEC Nation--primarily listening. It's takes some good eyes to catch that, OP!

On a different note I saw an ESPN broadcast this past week that had the Bama helmet with the number nine. I still haven't figured that one out.

I assume it's the producers that choose the helmets displayed. It seems easy enough to coordinate, ya know?

Damn, I noticed that at 9:01, but was wondering if it was my eyes or tv. I only got 4 hours of sleep, so I wasn't sure. Yet another reason to freaking hate ESPN. Come on guys, damnit.

I've changed my mind on this.

After OP's comment yesterday, I noticed the Bama helmet on "College Football Final" and couldn't help looking at the facemask. It wasn't white, it was gray. However, the font they used for the numbers on the helmets was wrong--not only the font family, but font size.

I'm left with one conclusion. ESPN has their own production teams that make the helmets. There's no other explanation for so many different ones on different sets.

i think they shouldn't be allowed to have a helmet unless the school gives them one to use. that way, it'll be the right helmet, the right colors, the right style, and the right number (16). also, sometimes the helmet doesn't have the "BAMA" logo on the front of the helmet...

I'm sure just one they made their own or something... but would fans really freak out that bad over a white facemask? Really? Seems pretty ridiculous. Not like it's a white helmet or something :rolf:
