One-loss wonder: Note to Alabama Fan and your sense of entitlement: Your team doesn't necessarily control its own fate down the stretch.

Bama (7-1) remains the highest-ranked one-loss team in the BCS (No. 6). The idea being tossed around Tuscaloosa as gospel is if the Tide win the rest of its games they are in the BCS title game. The implication being that 'Bama at 12-1 would leap over any unbeaten non-BCS team (Utah, TCU or Boise).

'My prediction is that they will [be in],' Jerry Palm said of Alabama. 'But Boise, TCU and Utah are getting more respect than they ever have. Boise's schedule is a little better [than in the past], so they're not going to be 15th in the computers. I'm not going to sit here and be shocked if enough voters give them [Boise] a shot.'

Alabama plays LSU, Mississippi State, Georgia State and Auburn this month before a possible SEC title game. Boise finishes with Hawaii, Idaho, Fresno State and Nevada this month. Its regular season ends Dec. 4 against Utah State. Before going forward this month, maybe Alabama fan should pay attention to another saying born in the BCS era: If you lose a game in this system, you have no right to complain.

In the BCS era, the only (somewhat) sure way of getting in is to win them all. Only two undefeated BCS conference champions have been shut out of a championship game -- Cincinnati in 2009 and Auburn in 2004.

Dennis Dodd makes me laugh he always leaves out the pertinent facts that make his opinion not work... like how many 1-2 loss BCS champions there have been, when there were undefeated Boise States and Utahs.

And hell yes Auburn AND Alabama should feel entitled and do control their own destiny for the simple reason that the SEC has owned the BCS, any one loss SEC champ deserves to be there more than anyone else does.

But no I won't be upset if we get jumped by an undefeated, because the only way to ensure BCS title games is to be undefeated ( and not be Auburn)

Not worried one bit about his opinions. Really just worried about LSU on Sat. That's it.

One more thing though. It appears several of his media buddies would disagree with him. I'm shocked at how many pundits currently have Alabama in Glendale vs. either Oregon or Boise State. Just sayin'.

I know what you mean, Sandra. Kinda reminds me of the media after the Florida win when everyone was talking about Bama being unbeatable and a destiny . . . and we know what happened then.

Just a couple days ago, Herbie was talking about how the winner of the Alabama-Auburn game, if they take care of business in the SECCG, will play for the NC. I'm thinking, Not so fast my friend, there's still LSU and Mississippi State (a team now with more motivation and a mission) to beat first.

I hope the team doesn't fall for the media nonsense again.

As big of a fan, and alumni, as I am, that Vegas line sure looks like a sucker's bet.

Why? Because there ARE so many undefeateds in front of Alabama. After Saturday, there will still be three, and other than Auburn, most have no difficult challenges ahead of them. To Bama's benefit right now, is the fact that we lost relatively early, to a team that is still ranked, and we might play them again.

Right now, after what I've seen, I'm having a hard time believing we are going to sail right on through the rest of this schedule. Everyone has the week off before they play us, they are all good teams. Heck, even Ga State has 6 wins right now, I believe. Now, we are going to kill them, but these remaining three conference games are the toughest ones we've played this year.

Get through LSU, and it looks a little better. You're right though. LSU first, then Miss. State and then Auburn. One at a time. No sense getting ahead of anything.

I don't think the players will be affected by all this gibberish. Then know Saban isn't pleased with their performance this year, and from a pride sense they know they haven't played their best game yet.

Last year (outside of Arkansas game) we waited until SECCG to play our best game. When will it be this year?

A BAMA vs. BSU scenario for the remaining positon would straight up be a referendum on the value of a tough schedule and a conference championship game. A tough spot? Yes. But the outcome steers all of college football one way or the other.
