New Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley doesn't deny that he occupies a branch on the Nick Saban coaching tree. He can't.
He spent seven years working for Saban, five at LSU and two with the Miami Dolphins.
But, in his first interview with the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Dooley wanted to make it clear that he's nobody's clone.
``I'm not Nick Saban,'' Dooley said. ``Have I been influenced by him? Of course. Our organizational structure and infrastructure is going to be very similar.
``But I have my own personality and my own beliefs, and we'll try to blend those two together and see what comes out.''
Saban has never admitted it publicly, as far as I know, but SEC insiders believe he was no friend of former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer.
Saban has never voiced his true feelings for Lane Kiffin, either, at least for public consumption, but I imagine he views him the way the Godfather might look down upon the bratty, childish stars of MTV's newest reality show, ``Jersey Shore.''
If nothing else, having Dooley in Knoxville should give the Alabama-Tennessee rivalry more genuine and mutual respect than it's known in ages, at least at the top.

I find it sad how vol fans are so fast to rally around Dooley, despite the fact he seems like a nice guy. But to them, Lane Kiffin was the same type of person, so their fans dont have any shame. If Dooley were so coveted though, he wouldve had alot more attention than he had.But not being Nick Saban will be his downfall/

For some reason I see alot of Mike Shula in this guy, hes a good guy with a famous coach as his father. But eh,

I think Dooley will prove to be a good hire for Tenn. Not only will he have his dad to draw from but he is also a Saban ex-assistant. Good hire.
