Man what is going with these coaches now. I can't get the link to come up for me. I read it espn.com.

Fox Sports is also reporting that James won't be doing the game now.

The player/family account and Leach's version are so far apart that obviously someone is telling a huge one. This could well cost leach his job.

I like this from Leach

Texas Tech completed an initial investigation before suspending Mike Leach. The Avalanche-Journal learned during that investigation Leach did not dispute the facts, but did not believe he had done anything wrong. Leach also told officials Adam James was a slacker and his father, Craig James, was always calling and acting like a Little League dad. Leach had until Monday to write an apology and when he did not, the university officials felt they had to take action. Leach has been suspended indefinitely, with pay, from his role as head coach

Man, that Leach is one hard-to-read cat. He's got this real dry demeanor, and basically comes off as a sarcastic SOB. Here's a guy with a Law Degree, coaching a pretty successful program in a tough conference, with very little history until recently.

Lately, when situations like this arise, and it appears that a coach's job might be in jeopardy, I ask myself "if this university fires him, would another university have any issues hiring him?"

If the answer is yes, another school might have a hard time hiring him, then the offense is pretty steep, and probably merits a dismissal. If the answer is no, another school would hire him quickly, then I question whether the offense is big enough to be fired in the first place. To me, this situation is a "maybe", with a slight lean to "no".

It is more than a little ironic that this should happen at Texas Tech. When Indiana canned Bobby Knight for a series of incidents over many years the Red Raiders stepped in and hured Bobby. Although I have a lot of personal distaste for Knight and his behavior, to his credit he kept himself under control while at Tech. Now Tech is having to decide whether they want to keep a coach who is fully as sarcastic as Knight was.

• On Dec. 17, James said Leach told trainers to put him in "the darkest place you can find." James was sent to an equipment shed near the practice field, where a member of the athletic staff checked on James to make sure he did not lean against anything or sit on the floor. James said Leach told him that if he came out he would be kicked off the team.

• When the team returned to practice two days later, on Dec. 19, James said Leach told trainers to "find the tightest, darkest place" for the player. James, in his street clothes, was put in an electrical closet inside the football stadium for hours, again monitored by a member of the athletic staff.

The James family contacted the university after the second practice, the person said.

Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, disputed the account.

Adam James "claimed to have been hurt," was examined and diagnosed with a "mild concussion," Liggett told the AP. "I believe that (Adam James) was a disgruntled student athlete that like many were not happy with their playing time."

Liggett told ESPN.com that James "was placed in an equipment room as it was much cooler and darker" than the practice field. The second time, Liggett told ESPN.com, James was placed in a "press room with air conditioning and a stationary bike he could use."

If the school finds that Leach (through his attorney) lied about the circimstances, he is toast, and I'd consider him unhirable.

so he had a concussion and they put him in a dark room for a few hours. I'm kinda struggling with this....and this is an issue why?

I see two issues: one is the appropriateness of confining James to a dark place standing up as a treatment for a concussion. I've never heard of a concussion being treated in this way, but I am not a medical expert by any stretch. The second is whether the confinement was in a tight confined space, as James states, or more comfortable surroundings, as Leach's attorney contends. If the kid's version is correct then there is the matter of Leach lying through his attorney, whether or not the "treatment" was appropriate.

Hmm, I know a few folks who have had them and a couple of them will tell you that they stayed in secluded rooms that were dark to keep their heads from pounding with headaches.

Too much still to come out about this story. Damn media is running wild with this story with all kinda BS reports.

Here is what I'm curious to see. When did Adam receive the concussion? When did Coach Leach put Adam in the dark room? These dates are important at understanding the real issue. The rumors on this are pretty interesting, that all of this could have been over a lack of an apology on Leach's part.

Regardless. Hell, we aren't even talking about them putting the kid in the game too early now, we are talking about him being put in a damn dark room might I remind you that there is no contact in this dark room as he was in their alone? seriously, why is this even a freaking issue. If he was playing football too soon I get it...but having him in a dark room, now this is an issue...just wow!

So he put a guy in a closet and had someone check on him? LOL Pretty weak, hell what did bear do? I've heard and read stories from players that would maket this seem like cup cakes. Sounds like a spoiled kid to me, but well have to see how the whole story plays out.

Craig James probably isn't the best resource for how players are supposed to be treated anyway. They put his kid in a closet for being a baby. Meanwhile, 25 years and a million light years away, Craig James and Eric Dickerson got their cars and their dates paid for and delivered by SMU alumni.

Sorry; didn't want to go there. Especially on our very own Alabama Football board, what with all of our past "issues". But it is ironic in a slight way.
