| FTBL Coach Bryant Retired Forty Years Ago Today

I remember it well! I was a 12 year old that had dreams of playing for Coach Bryant. My love for all things University of Alabama started with that man. He reminded me of my great grandfather. A larger than life man that was a hard worker and demanded his family do the same. My great grandfather passed away 2 years before Coach Bryant and I guess I subbed Coach for my loss. His retirement hurt me, but a month later, his death really punched me in the gut.
I remember watching the news conference.
I do too, that was a sad day in Alabama history!
I wouldn’t be lying if I said that one of my teachers had it on in their classroom.
