I'm a non smoker, except for this weekend, so I'm always looking for advice / recommendations for a good cigar. Here's what a local Bama friend recommended. It's along the same line that @riz and @TerryP recommended a couple of years ago.

A Hemingway Classic Short Story, an Oliva Series G, or a Romeo Y Julietta. Ask for a cigar with a madurai wrapper. Then pick up a good brandy to sip with it. (I believe @TerryP recommended Scotch.)

What do you recommend?

Been following this site for years now but have not really posted. But, you cant go wrong with Perdomo 10th anniversary in Maduro wrapper. It's a little on the strong side but just eat something before you smoke it and you'll be fine. B&B (Brandy and Benedictine) pairs great with any cigar especially a Maduro wrapper because they tend to be a little sweet. Olivia V Melanio is also very good as is an MX2 by CFO ( a double Maduro wrapper) Romeo Y Julietta Reaserva Real is a very nice mild and smooth cigar too. Montecristo makes a Platinum series that is excellent but a little pricey (around $12).
Hope this helps and RTR !!!

Cuban rum/cigar ban is lifted on Monday...too bad this wasn't in lifted a few days earlier :)
It would be nice. But man Cubans (the real thing) are expensive (bout $25 ea) and they really are not worth the price difference in my humble opinion. Really good cigars have been produced in the Dominican Republic for years now as well as Nicaragua. So the Cubans, while still very good, are not the hot property they once were.

I'm with Terry, a nice Scotch. Bourbon is traditional, but scotch and cigars work well together. And I've had some really good cigars from the Dominican's as well. I like one with about Medium spice. Allows you to enjoy without getting all dizzy.

Id go with some monkey shoulder scotch. Not a huge price tag and really good stuff. Cigars, I say a padron or rocky patel decade with sumatra wrapper

Auturo Fuente makes a really good stogie for the price. Their Curlyhead Deluxe is a pretty good smoke for around 6 bux.

C.A.O. is another great brand, ranging anywhere from $8-$15 depending on style.

And for Christmas sake, if you're gonna spend decent money on a cigar, get a punch, and not just a cutter. The punch bores out a small, pen-sized hole in the wrapper on the draw end. That way, you're not getting a bunch of leaf shreds in your mouth.
