CFB AM: Did Urban Meyer do the 'greatest coaching job of all time?'
What happens when football-crazed people are starved of their football for more than a few weeks?
We start veering a little towards the insane end of the fan spectrum and incite fun debates that could never, ever, even possibly be decided.
Jon Gruden did that a few days ago with his thoughts on Ohio State coach Urban Meyer. Gruden went on the radio and sent Meyer's work last season was the "greatest coaching job of all time."
That is, of course, coming from a man who's won a Super Bowl and knows as much about football as anyone out there. So Gruden's comments carry particular weight.
"Urban Meyer did the greatest coaching job of all time," Gruden said, according to coachingsearch.com. "Winning a national championship with his third-string quarterback, I've never seen that before. I've always respected him. Won two national titles at Florida.
"What he did at Ohio State, losing a Heisman Trophy candidate and then doing what he did with two different quarterbacks that were backups. Amazing to me."
I suppose many Ohio State fans share the same feeling as Gruden. I don't know where I stand, considering Ohio State was still insanely talented and its "third-string" QB wasn't that because of his ability. But no question Meyer's work in 2014 is up there in terms of all-time great seasons.
For readers: Would you consider Meyer's 2014 season the "greatest coaching job of all time?" Who else would you compare it to?
