CBS uses Auburn logo instead of Alabama

When the Alabama football team's offense came on the field for its opening drive against LSU, some people might have been confused.

The Auburn logo was projected on the field where it should have been Alabama's logo.

The game was broadcast on CBS. All the images captured on Twitter displayed the logo during second-and-2 with about 14:30 left in the first quarter.

Here are some images of the snafu.

One person jokingly blamed CBS broadcaster Gary Danielson.

Alabama defeated LSU 55-14 on Saturday.

LSU went to 3-5 overall and 3-5 in the SEC. The Alabama Crimson Tide, ranked No. 1 in the Amway Coaches Poll, improved to 9-0 overall and 9-0 in the SEC.

After Saturday, Alabama leads the all-time series 54-26-5 against LSU.

I'm thinking you have a calendar with both schools logo's versus Alabama using one that looks just like Auburn's. You just have the Alabama version (top logo.)

That's a 1979 calendar and Auburn started using that logo officially in 1971. Both schools would not have the same logo at the same time. In '79, Bama official logo was the elephant through the A. They did have a UA logo for six years ending in 1958 (elephant standing on a football holding an ice cream cone with UA on the side of the elephant.)

Alabama doesn't manufacture these items. I'm sure some third-world company thought they could make some money and put it together without any knowledge.

FWIW, Bama did not play SMU in 1979. Bama played them at home (B'ham) in 1976 and that 1979 game was supposed to have been the return game at SMU. Coach Bryant could not get them to agree to come back so he bought the game out saying that he was not taking his team to play in front of 28 K fans. Scheduled Wichita State.

I wonder how far out they did the scheduling back then. Bear was AD and 1979 was the first year Schnellenberger was at Miami. I wonder if it is a situation like Saban and Kent St, where you play them and pay them. Throwing them a bone, so to speak.

Most of Bama's scheduling then was several years in advance. Miami, however, was an Independent, and had the "anyone, anytime, anywhere" policy so that game may have been scheduled in early '79. I know that the Wichita State game was a late replacement after the SMU buyout.

He also wanted to help Miami out, because it was about to drop the football program.
