🏈 can you imagine if julio stays next year?

I actually think the injuries would push him out even sooner. Durability has clearly been a concern and he is still projected as the #2 receiver in the draft. If he has a productive finish to this year and there is no NFL louckout next year, he's gone. Coming back another year could help. He could also get hurt AGAIN which would make teams question his durability and he could leave millions on the table. Bradford was lucky to still be drafted #1. You can bet things like that will play into any young man's decision.

Including Cam's.

Cam's gone, and I truly believe Julio will be too. It's probably the best decision for the both of them. Cam is being forced to be a work horse over there on the plains and honestly it's simply a matter of time before he gets hurt at the rate he's running the ball. I know the entire AU family thinks he's invincible, but no one's invincible. With teams now realizing they've got to target him to stop him, he's got a bullseye on his chest and it's just a matter of time whether it be this season or say he was to actually stick around for another season, there's just too much to chance.

As far as Julio goes, I've thought about this and I just can't see him sticking around being the best decision for him. Sure we'd all love to see him and his new robotic hand stay another season, but it's honestly not the wisest choice for him in my opinion.

I thought he'd be gone after this year really. But after his injury issues, the fact that there are a few receivers rated higher than him(mayybe not by kiper, but GM's draft you), and his concentration issues at times, I am beginning to wonder that if he goes, if he will really make it into the first round.

Then you have the possibilities of a strike, and I am beginning to think hed stand to gain more by coming back for one more year.

Besides, its really a good idea to get a degree before you go, most players dont last more than a few seasons in the NFL, whether they are cut or injured or whatever. but he cant go bavk to get his degree if it ends, if he cant pay.

I'm not saying he's a shoe in to stay, but I do remember him saying he and his mother wanted him to get his degree before he left Alabama. I know that's something that's easy to say when the money isn't being flashed in your face but in my opinion it's something to keep in mind.

I thought I remembered that about the degree. Hope it works for us.

If you are basing your assessment of AJ over GMac in the games that we have seen played out, then you are comparing apples to oranges. Yes AJ appears to have the stronger arm and appears to throw the long ball better. Having said that I also remember in the 2008 thrashing of Auburn that GMac came in for a JP Wilson and threw a 30 some odd yard TD pass to Maze and looked magnificent doing it.

I said all that to say this. When you do get to see AJ in a game it is against a whooped opponent, for the most part. UT is thin at every position on the field. To say that he is going to be the next Carson Palmer, Matt Leinert, Philip Rivers, etc... is a bit premature. While I feel very comfortable that AJ or Sims will be a good QB for us in the future, I am not ready to send GMac off to pasture and say that our back up is better than the starter. If that were the case, he would certainly be the starter.

It is the age old debate that has centered around UA football for as long as I can remember. I remember everyone being excited when Tyler Watts got to Alabama, or Brodie Croyle, or the fact that GMac showed more poise than JP Wilson, and now AJ has more "touch" and a stronger arm than GMac. It's all relative. So long as they all win, nothing else much matters.

I don't think anyone in this thread has said that AJ is better than Greg. The only thing that I saw was that AJ would probably take more chances down the field than Greg, giving Julio more chances to make plays. It's pretty much been said by Saban that AJ is more of a gunslinger and takes more chances. I also thought it was public knowledge that AJ has a stronger arm than Greg, I think even Greg has admitted this. Greg's at least said that his strength isn't his arm strength. I don't think any of this makes AJ better than Greg but I also don't see anyone saying it does.

If there is an NFL lockout both Marks, Marcel, Dante are all likely to stay. That would give us an absolutely sick roster talentwise, but a major headache on scholarship numbers because we have 18 commitments already.

I have done a little digging/reading about the lock out situation and get mixed reviews. While it would make sense that a lot of juniors would sit tight and play another year, while getting their degree, you also have to weigh the possibility of injury. For the most part, I'm sure most of you remember Willis McGahee getting his knee blown out against OSU. I specifically remember him taking out a 2 million dollar, or so, insurance policy out in case something like this happened. If in 2 years he was unable to play football, he would get a 2 million dollar settlement. Matt Leinarts dad mortgaged his house off to pay for a 5 million dollar policy for him just in case an unfortunate incident like this happened to Matt.

I also read where agents will give players money based upon the fact that they will get it back. I'm not talking about "luring" a potential player to sign. I'm talking about after a player signs with an agent. The agent knows that the player is worth "X" million of dollars. To a poor college kid 100k is a chunk of change. (to a poor redneck like me, that is a chunk of change) irregardless, they pay them a nice salary on the presumption of their draft status. A former player was posting on another forum of having been hunting buddies with Jarrett Johnson (Baltimore Ravens) He said he didn't know exactly how much, but it was enough to live on for a while.

I said all that to say this. From what little I know, and what I have read, it will be about 50/50 on some of these kids staying or going. I want to be selfish and think that they would stay, but if I'm a kid with remarkable talent and can sign with an agent and he will pay me 100k to sit out a year in order to keep from getting hurt.......who knows. There are risks in any decision we make in life. These guys have some decisions to make pretty soon. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
