This decision makes the NCAA and BCS priorities crystal clear: Don’t mess with our money. Cameron Newton was NEVER going to be punished for his and his father’s actions. Punishing Newton, arguably the nation’s best player on the top rated team, would cripple the marketability of the BCS title game. It would have affected sponsor income, damaged the SEC and impacted Auburn’s recruiting practices. Why would they pull Newton out when he is still selling out Jordan-Hare stadium and producing huge ratings on CBS and ESPN? You wouldn’t.

That is evidenced by the Auburn fanbase's unrelenting loyalty toward a guy who is one and done, and will never mention the words "Auburn University" again. Auburn's jealousy over watching us win it all last year made them sell their souls so that they could experience it too.

It might not happen in a timely fashion, but they are going to pay dearly for this season.

:nana:You got that right. They sold their souls to the devil because their jealousy got the best of them. They might sell it again cause i see no.14 comin next year.

I dont see any difference in the scan newton deal and the albert means deal. I wish someone would tell me the difference, is there any difference?

None except daddy was doing the shopping and Cam did not know anything about it......:lance:
I am sick of hearing from the Auburn faithful that it is over...everything I read says the opposite. It continues but will not be resolved this football season.

:lance: oh,they won't see it cause all the good stuff is goin on behind the scenes, under cover of darkness,if you will. They are FAR from done with this case. It's just now heating up. Kinda like shootin a deer. You wont walk up and tell him you're gonna shoot him,you do it from a distance. That's why they are all ignorin it,then BAM!

The question the NCAA needs to ask themselves is: If Auburn were 7-5 or 8-4, or not in any title hunt, would they (NCAA) have handled this situation the same way?

There is no way that they answer yes. So the obvious alternative to that would be "No, we would not have handled it this way." Of course they will never admit that but deep down they know the correct answer to that question.

Another difference was that his high school coaches shopped him around and his mom didn't get a single dime of it. I can still see her on the porch of her "gov't" house being interviewed with 1-2 kids crawling in her lap. The mom had no clue! As stated above, THIS isn't over and has merely begun.

In defense of AU fans, we were in denial about the Means case too but at least UA cooperated w/ the investigation. AU is totally standing on the merit of not knowing which will make any sanctions even worse if the truth makes its way out.

UA not only cooperated but provided the NCAA with everything except the lethal injection (thanks, Ice Miller!). I am still not so sure we benefited one iota from our level of cooperation with those NCAA hacks. Look at the whole Tyrone Beamon situation. We were so compliant and by the book with that situation to the extent that the NCAA COI praised our actions and then promptly extended the probation window which led to even stronger sanctions during the Means case because of the repeat offender clause. IOW, I think AU has played this thing perfectly!

I'm sure you're totally right in regards to how the NCAA ***** slapped us after our cooperation. And so far AU has played this thing beautifully (I wonder how much of this is due to the insight that the 'Bama law professor is providing them?).

However, AU's achilles heal to this whole thing is the coincidence FBI investigation of 2 prominent BOT members, including the chair. The kinda stuff that they'd normally be able to hide may very well be reveled due to the federal investigation. IF, big IF, that happens AU will be in BIG, BIG trouble.

We did have the FBI helping the cause of the NCAA but I am in serious doubt as to whether AU suffers anything due to the carte blanche amnesty they have given Cam at this point. They seemingly will have to try and save face if anything is turned up by the FBI wrt Cam. Now the whole play for pay thing, if it is true, would cover many more players than just Cam and would be an issue for sure but if they do have that system in play, Saban sure is doing a good job of recruiting despite the windfall for players on the Plains. I am just not sure I am buying any of this.

BTW, I don't think even the most optimistic AU fan would have seen Cam Newton becoming the player that he has this year. I really don't think they "sold their soul" for just Cam Newton if there was any selling to begin with but that's just my opinion. If they have indeed sold their soul, it will be more widespread and not just relegated to Cam.

You might need to do a bit more research.(or memory refreshing) Your post was what they claimed in the Young trials. It was later told that the Means family did receive around 60k (Means didnt deny when it was revealed) and that Means lied about taking his college entrance exam (under federal oath)

Didn't do research Koz, tried to go from memory. Things slip as you get older. I just remember his coaches driving around in Escalades and seeing the TV interview with mom.

Koz, did you ever get to see the "investigation" that one of the cable channels did on Logan Young's death? I missed it when it was first released and haven't caught up with it since.
