If you've followed the computer rankings of the BCS you are certainly familiar with the name Richard Billingsley.
For those who aren't familiar with his rankings or methods Billingsley does use a computer formula but is careful to point out he's neither a computer geek or a mathematicianāhe say's "I'm just a football fan."
The main components in the formula are: Won-Loss Records, Opponent Strength (based on the opponentās record, rating, and rank), with a strong emphasis on the most recent performance. Very minor consideration is also given to the site of the game, and defensive scoring performance.
His rankings, a part of the College Football Research Center, are in its 44th year tracking statistical data regarding college football. Alabama's recent success has moved the program past Ohio State and Michigan in its rankings over the past few seasons.
