Alabama landed one of the top uncommitted prospects in the nation moments ago when Monaca (Pa.) Central Valley wide receiver Robert Foster selected the Crimson Tide over hometown Pitt. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder made the commitment at a press conference held at his high school.

Foster’s recruitment was intense heading down to the wire with Pitt posing a substantial challenge to Alabama. He visited the Capstone three times over the past year- once for A-Day, once in the summer, and lastly for an official visit in October. He visited Pitt numerous times and took his official there on November 16.

The electric playmaker becomes the Crimson Tide’s 20th commitment in the class of 2013 and 14th from outside the state of Alabama. The Tide currently have commitments from 12 different states. Foster’s recruiter of record for Alabama was linebackers coach, Lance Thompson.

The Western Pennsylvania star becomes Alabama’s fourth five-star recruit according to 247Sports, joining Tide commits Jonathan Allen, OJ Howard, and Derrick Henry. He also becomes the highest-ranked wide receiver to commit to the Tide since Julio Jones.

Foster, who is set to participate in the Under Armour All-America Game in January, had an outstanding senior campaign, hauling in 45 receptions for 756 yards and 14 touchdowns to go with 549 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. On defense, he added 67 tackles, 4 interceptions, 8 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery.

Robert Foster kicked off his Christmas break in style, as the five-star prospect announced his college decision at his high school Friday afternoon. Foster had his choice of any school he wanted. He narrowed his choices to Pittsburgh and Alabama last month, after taking official visits to both schools. On Friday, an Foster chose the Crimson Tide.
"I want to thank my whole high school, I'll always rep my high school wherever I'm at." Foster added.
Foster gives the Tide a third wide receiver in the class of 2013, joining Ardarius Stewart and Raheem Falkins. The talented senior made the announcement at the school cafeteria.
Foster remained emotional throughout the brief press conference, taking the microphone after his mother addressed the crowd wearing a Pitt sweatshirt.
"I love you all and I want to do it for the Valley," He said.
Foster will play in next Monty's Under Armour All-American Bowl in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Stay tuned for more from Foster's announcement.

One of those side notes...

If we go back to our last class we also had the #2 receiver out of high school come to Bama which is where ESPN has Foster ranked for this years class.

The interesting thing is that wide receiver we haven't seen yet. It was Chris Black.

A key phrase in there you might have skipped over.

Out of the 20 verbals we have, 14 are out of state covering 12 different states.

Its pretty crazy. Here is the breakdown off of 247sports. Interesting that GA is only 2 recruits.

Just wanted to point out that the NJ recruit is from a town near me, a town my high school played football against quite often. Garden State represent!

Good grief, Coop, Black and Foster? AJ is gonna have a field day.

Don't forget Kenny Bell, Christian Jones and DeAndrew White

I'm a little surprised you both forgot Norwood.

I'm not in the least surprised this guy hasn't been mentioned. I've seen a dozen, if not more, people mention those six receivers and talk about what a group the QB will have to choose from.

But, I've not seen anyone mention Raheem Falkins who I think will end up fulfilling the X receiver position.

Why?

Foster and Norwood come in at around 6'2". From there we have Cooper and Bell who come in at 6'1", and every one is else shorter as we go through the depth chart.

Raheem comes in close to 6'5". In our Ace formation, with him split wide, we'll get single coverage against a cornerback the majority of the time. He already has 2 - 2½" on our receivers.

We already carry a roster of some of the tallest corners in collegiate football. If we looked around at the teams we play we'll find the majority of the corners at 5'11" to 6'. The tallest we played against this year was Simon out of LSU at 6'3".

You guys see where I'm going with this?

Glad to read that his mom was still supportice of his decision even though she wanted him to stay close in state at Pitt. She said that while Bama wasn't her first choice, she said it was his life and his decision and she would support him. Classy!
