Ummmmm.... lsu might disagree with that NC in 58...
Notice they didnt list bowls Ls or Ws for 57/58....probation!
1972?....another year of wierd....loss to AU... but NCs...ummmm
Finished #7 in AP...
But...bama question anything opponents claim on NCs....opponents throw up 1942...as bama claims NC....

Should drop 1941 and take 1966. The NCAA only shows Houlgate voting 9-2 Bama champs while they list Berryman and Sagarin voting 11-0 Bama champions in 1966. Hell 1977 has Football Research going for that 11-1 Bama team over the 11-1 Fighting Irish.
I have to agree with this as well. I have no problem Alabama claiming 1966 as a national title. College football NCs prior to probably the mid 70s are some of the hardest things to analyze. The game was so de-centralized back then.

1966...only untied...unbeaten team....blasted nebraska in Bowl
But there was a strong anti southern thing...
And there wss the opening game....vs LaTech ( and Phil Robertson n TerryBradshaw were QBs for Tech) that hurt

Hosed in 66, no team had ever won 3 NCs in a row. Surely wasn’t going to be a bunch of skinny white kids from Alabama. Gave up 37 points and had 6 shutouts. Great team.
The 66 squad was the most dominate team I’ve ever personally seen play. Unfortunately, the bias of the midwest media back then was absolutely astounding. Along with the NE media, they decided at some point in the season they were going to punish AP preseason Number 1 Bama for the state’s racial policies. The midwest media also weren’t going to allow Bama to match the record of the Minnesota teams of 34,35 and 36.

After blowing out Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl, I remember my dad predicting the press would rob Bama of the NC. I was a kid but I agreed with my uncle and other family members who said my dad was crazy. That was especially true since Bama’s Sugar Bowl victory put them at 11-0. While Notre Dame and Michigan State having tied 10-10 earlier in the season ended up with 9-0-1 records as both refrained from playing in a bowl. Yet, my dad actually turned out to be right and I never questioned him again when it came to Bama football or the bias of the nation’s press corp. I so wish he could have lived to see this magnificent run. He was a true Tide fanatic who had seen Wade and Thomas win NC’s but he adored the Bear. Though, I can’t imagine Saban not having won him over by now!

There isn't a bigger profession than professional journalism that attracts the scummiest and most mediocre people of society.

Plus, the whole reason Bama(Bama's SID) started claiming 12 titles, back in '93, was to thumb their noses at Notre Dame, who claimed 11. '66 would be part of flipping them off.

I have never owned anything with the number of claimed titles, as I have always thought it was embarrassing that they claimed '41. Hell, even with Army, '45 would have been less embarrassing, at least Bama went undefeated that year.

And that's why I like my "18' bucket hat. It's a "what do you bring to the table" statement.
