Auburn has had about the easiest schedule of any team in the SEC. Here is how their opponents have faired thus far against Div. 1 teams:
La Tech is 1-2
Miss St is 1-3
W. Virginia is 2-1
Ball St 0-4
Tenn is 1-3

Thats a combined record of 5 wins and 13 losses. And by the way, those wins by their opponents have been against very, very bad Div. 1 teams.

Say what you want about Auburn being undefeated, but they have played absolutely NO ONE. Auburn is undefeated for one reason only, they teams they have played thus far are terrible!

The media may be hyping their record so far but reality is fixing to set in in a big way for Auburn starting next week. :a:

WVU is 3-1
Ball State is 0-5
MSU and UT are 2-3
La Tech is 2-3.

Our opponents are 9-12 this season to date.

I completely agree, though for sure I expect Auburn to be ranked as of today. BUT they have played no ranked opponents. To put in more perspective:
WVU has beaten Liberty, ECU, and Col (one win - Wyo.)
UT has beaten Western Kentucky and Ohio University
MSU has beaten Jacksonville St and Vandy
La Tech has beaten Nicholls St. and Hawaii (at home in La.)
Ball St has obviously beaten no none.

Improved from last year? For sure, they have more confidence and they are committing to the scheme they should have stuck with last year. But the overall talent is about the same and this is being achieved with virtually Tubby's pre-exisiting team. We'll see how they do against the Hogs (in Fayetteville) whose only losses are to two ranked teams in UGA and Bama. They should be fine against KEntucky (although I was pretty impressed with Kentucky overall) then @LSU and Ole Miss, followed by Furman and ending with @UGA and Bama. I am guessing they will end up with at least three losses in there and possibly five losses.

And if it doesn't go that way and they are undefeated come Nov. 28, it will just make the Iron Bowl that much more meaningful!

Time will bear it out.

They are better than last year...but how could they NOT BE. They were terrible.
UT's offensive game plan did not seem to exist or it was just that bad.

I'll echo the sentiment as well, and say that Auburn is much improved this year. I still think they're probably middle of the pack SEC at best. Also, being much improved from last year isn't saying a lot because last year was a train wreck for that program. Coaches getting fired during the season, other coaches packing it in, and players squabbling. It was a mess. So yeah, anything is an improvement from what happened last year.

I'll give credit where it is due however, and say that Chizzle and his coaches seem to have AU players believing and playing some rather inspired (not sure if that is the best term to use, but..) football right now, and there is something to be said for emotion. Will it be enough to carry them through the course of the season? I doubt it.

There's an old saying among coaches; No amount of game day coaching can make up for a lack of talent.

I don't view that statement in absolute terms because I think there are times when coaching can overcome a lack of talent. There are things that a staff can do schematically to help put their team in a position to win. But that is more of a short-term solution and not a long-term one. So I give the AU staff credit for what they're doing, but playing on a high will probably go right out the window once Auburn lines up against a team that is superior to them. It'll work against Ball State and a hapless Tennessee team, but not against the better teams in the conference IMHO.

I have to give AU credit, they are better than I thought they would be, but with their suspect defense, they could run into trouble next week in Arkansas.
I don't really get all of the crapping on AU stuff. Arkansas is going to beat them? Yeah right. They'll beat Arky as bad as we did. Auburn's tough. I'll give them that.
And strangely, I've found I don't loathe them so much since Tuberhole left.

MSU beat Jackson State.

Jacksonville State would beat MSU right now...and I am not joking.

I can't agree with that.

MSU would have beaten Ga. Tech yesterday if they didn't choose to shoot all of the toes on one foot off.

Five turnovers killed them. Despite that, they had a heck of an offensive day with right at 500 yards of total offense. I won't be surprised if they pull off an SEC win before this season is over—one that'll shock a lot of people.

tennessee put up over 400 yds against this glorified second coming of the tigers.. that's sad.. if tennessee's recievers could catch a pass i think it could have been a completely different game. kiffen's D was extremely winded.. that was the only time auburncould run the ball at all.. a few first downs and kiffen could have been the anti-tigers..

To me, the difference between the barn from last year to this year is Todd. If he's not hurt last year, they win several more games and Tvill is still there. He has looked sharp, everything else is about the same.

Didn't they already beat Vandy? That is shocking enough for one season.

I still think JSU would beat them.

FSU came from behind in the final minute to beat JSU, and the JSU v/s GT score was comparable - even though Ryan Perriloux was suspended against Tech. Had Perriloux played, JSU would have been closer.

Yes, they did beat Vandy. But seriously, what's that saying this year? This certainly isn't the Commodore team of 2008.

If you look at that Vandy game and then look at the games after it you can see a team that is progressively getting better.

MSU vs Vandy was a game of FG's and a team failing to continue their drives.

Against GT, three of those five turnovers MSU had were deep in GT territory. Hey, that's part of the game. But, it's not the kind of thing you would expect to continually plague a team as the season progresses.

It's a personal view, I understand. But, it's a view I can't escape. I look at that Bulldogs—in the light of a first year coach—and see it as the most improved team out of the three.

MSU has five SEC games left on their schedule. They travel to UK and Arkansas, and host Bama, Florida and Mississippi. They will not be favored in any of those games. But, it's not a stretch of my imagination to think they'll pull a win out of one of the five.

If Ole Miss' season goes as I suspect it will, what a fitting end to both teams regular season if the Bulldogs pull a win out of the hat in Starkville to end their season, eh?

Let me add this one thought Darren...sort of building on a statement I just made.

A comparison between Mullen and Lane—I don't think we'd see this differently as to the most improved. Especially if we take that view over a five year period.

Now, I suspect we won't see a comparison between Mullen and Chizik differently as well. My vote for most improved goes to Mullen again.

I know some will see it differently. But, when I consider the success Auburn has—to date—I don't credit Chizik or Malzahn as much as I see it as a huge indictment on Tuberville and his staff in 2008.
