🏈 ATTN MEMBERS AND GUESTS: “Nothing is made, nothing disappears. The same changes, at the same places

Over the next couple of weeks you're likely going to see some changes on the site. Forums may be moved, may disappear all together. Features may disappear, profiles change, etc.

It's the spring...so we'll call this a case of spring cleaning—but that's not the whole story.

For those of you that have been around here awhile you've seen us change formats and software packages a few times. From CrimsonTusks to a combination of Crimson Tusks (as our news section) and RollTideBama as our forum. Then to RollTideBama handling everything.

Now, we're changing again. We'll still be under the RollTideBama domain name so finding the site won't be any issue at all. However, we're about to go through a software change and it's completely moving away from the vBulletin format we've used here for several years.

There will be some changes in the way you get around, post, send private messages, etc. But, with any message board software it all works the same...just might be in a different place.

Here's a quick why and where we are at this point.

The biggest "why" in this has to do with mobile technology. Lance ( <!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: dbtech_usertag_mention --> @Doemasters <!-- END TEMPLATE: dbtech_usertag_mention --> ) and I have been watching the development of vBulletinConnect (vB5, we're running vB4 now) for a year or more now. To say the least us making that move would be going backwards. Their goal with vBConnect was to bridge over to mobile users and so far they've failed miserably.

Yet, the need for us to move along with technology has remained. This new software will allow our members and guest to visit the site at home on their computers, on their phones, on...well, whatever, without noticeable differences—a seamless transition if you will.

The "where we are..."

Lance and I have ran through a handful of demo's already. In fact, we've just started a new one today. A lot of these have been used to learn the software, a lot have been to try different options with the software, and a lot of it has been...I'll just call it fun.

I LOVE what we're moving to and I certainly believe you guys will as well.

We won't be making the official move for several weeks. It'll certainly be after A-day because we're not starting the official build until then.

We'll keep you guys up to date on where we are, and most importantly be sure to let all of you know when we're making the transition so you won't be shocked at any downtime.

The next two posts aren't exactly what the site will look like...but it will give you a sneak peak.

Any thought on breaking some things up in different sub-forums like below:

Alabama Football
Alabama Recruiting
Members Only (football or other Alabama sports related info that we don't want leaving this forum; little more edgy info that we wouldn't want rival fans or random people to see or know and running with it) This sub-forum will only display to members logged in, but will not display to visitors to the site or members not logged on. Could make this a thrust or privilege section where members can gain or lose access to due to thrust level. This section would be good for coach firings, coaching search, NCAA investigations.... that members may have info on and can post it there, and can thust that that info will stay there and not for all to read.

Alabama Basketball
Alabama Baseball
Alabama other sports

Professional Sports
General Chat
so on and so on?

Thanks, Terry. Just show me how to put Birdman37 in timeout and we will be all good!! ;) LOL! :chat2_mooning:

I can make it every time he clicks on a link here he ends up on an Auburn page...or UT, or gay porn, or...

I'm not kidding.

Imagine if we'd made the switch before the OT from TX showed up...he clicks his own thread and ends up on OrangeBloods...or whatever.

Yes, going these directions.

The only concern I have with members only sections is people starting threads that really don't need to be closed to visitors.

Take the way BOL is set up, for example. I can't tell you how often I've seen threads that were locked for surfers but the content was as bland as it could be.

There may be a way around this. But, I've not really researched that specific function. I will put it on my list...I'm with you on what you're envisioning though...

There's an option I'm going to explore that'll allow all sports threads to be posted on one forum, but then if you wanted to just be on a football forum you could go to that specific area.

IE: On the main forum you see practice report. Clicking that link takes you to the football forum. The next thread is a softball update. Clicking that thread takes you to the softball forum. And so on...

I know that can be done, but haven't reached the point in the demo/build/test phase to watch how it works.

'preciate the input...keep it coming!!!!

Nah. You just live down-wind from the Barn and i'm afraid its effecting you!

Hey I live far enough away where "those" ppl dont effect me... No farm animal humping over here.

You wouldnt do that to your favorite poster would you? :icon_eek:

I have noticed that on the mobile app, when I receive a notification, I cannot click on it and see what it is. Is that just a glitch?

I don't know Jill. I'm using Android on my mobile devices.

If it's important to you try going through your profile to get to your notifications. Otherwise, hang tight a few more weeks and it won't be an issue at all.
