Just in time for Apple's release of the iPhone 5S, AT&T will boost the availability of its 4G LTE network by nearly 80 additional markets.

Although six markets across the country already had the switch flipped on this week (Jackson, TN; Kalamazoo, MI; Napa, CA; Orangeburg, SC; Rocky Mount-Wilson, NC; and Santa Rosa-Petaluma, CA.), the rest of the planned market expansions will take place this summer.

The total number of 4G LTE markets available through AT&T presently sits at 182. However, 77 more will go live by the close of summer, a development that will move AT&T much closer to its goal of reaching 300 million Americans with its 4G network by the end of next year.

Instagramming or live-tweeting from an Alabama football game might have just gotten a little bit easier, thanks to an AT&T antenna upgrade in Bryant-Denny Stadium designed to provide more mobile internet coverage.

The company recently implemented a 4G LTE upgrade to the Distributed Antenna System that provides wireless coverage in and around Bryant-Denny, according to a company press release.

The DAS system consists of multiple antennas and is commonly used in heavily-trafficked areas or places where the terrain or building construction might disrupt cell service

The release states AT&T engineers will monitor the antenna system throughout the football season and could possibly make changes as necessary.

Since last football season, AT&T has also utilized a Cell on Wheels to boost coverage for the heightened mobile traffic seen when thousands of Alabama fans are in town.

"When our customers head out to the stadium to support their team, we want them to have a great network experience throughout the game no matter what they're doing – whether that's making a call, checking email, downloading apps or surfing the Internet," said Fred McCallum, president of AT&T Alabama. "...We're continuing to invest in the wireless network, and providing enhanced wireless coverage at Bryant Denny Stadium is just one way that we're investing in Tuscaloosa."
