Interesting story. Arik Armstead is a 4-5* DL out in California that has added both Alabama and Auburn to the list of west coast schools that are showing them some love. Reported in the article, Coach Saban has requested an In-Home visit. (note: Arik was on campus for the 5Nov LSU game)

The twist is that Arik has a brother who currently plays for Southern Cal. Big brother, Armond, is looking to transfer for his one remaining year of eligability. So the deal is its both or nothing.

That being known, I have no idea how that would work. Are transfers counted against the "25" that a school can sign during a year, or would adding a Senior only be accountable against our "85"?

I've seen people say they are a package deal. But, I've not seen anything from either brother indicating it was a "end all, be all" when it comes to the younger brother signing.

Armond hasn't been cleared by USC's (or ND's whom he considered) medical staff to play. Do you honestly think if he can't get through those, he'd be cleared by our staff?

Transfers count against both numbers.

Im not a fan of the "packaged deal" that brothers do sometimes. Im glad we didnt do it for Keenan Allen and the Brown brothers. I know we have a few sets of brothers on the team but i think they earned their spots as opposed to being a packaged deal. I just dont like the idea that we let a recruit make the rules in a sense. We offer the kids we want to play for us and if they shop us around we usually drop them and move on. Get on board with us or get off and we'll move to the next one.

I've been following recruiting for years and I can't think of any situation where we've offered a package deal: family or not.

Brothers following brothers, sons following fathers and uncles, etc.,...that's been happening for decades on end.

On the OD this morning they were saying the brothers were waiting to hear if the SEC would allow the older brother to be immediately eligible. They think ND is out of the picture or they would have already committed.

I swear those guys don't keep up with a thing when it comes to stories. ND didn't give him a medical clearance. OF COURSE they are eliminated.
