With TV gaining more and more control over scheduling, it is probably a matter of when, not if, this happens. Big 10 kicked it around at a meeting last week.

"Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany is trying to get feedback to be used in negotiating the next series of TV deals for the league. The current contracts run through 2016 (with Fox for the conference football championship game) and ’17 (with ESPN and ABC for regular-season games)

If the networks want Big Ten games on Friday nights — a slot traditionally reserved for high schools — Delany wants to know where his constituents stand and an idea of what a commitment like that would be worth."

Big 10 said no, for the time being. What will the SEC do?

i like a friday night game... i understand though the conflict with high school games. i don't generally frequent high school games however. maybe it would be best to schedule the lower bililng games on friday nights where people may be just as likely to go to the high school game but listen on headphones to the friday night Bama vs. X game.

There would be HUGE issues with this in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, all states I know that are big time on high school ball. We all live and die by college football, but high school football is nearer and dearer to our hearts because for the most of us that was where we last spent our glory days on the gridiron. You'll never see me at a college football game on a Friday. Been to plenty of Thursday night games in the ACC with friends that graduated from Georgia Tech, and they are a ton of fun! With the popularity of recruiting only gaining strength, cross country matchups, border wars, and just watching your own kids play in Single A all the way to big time AAAAAA ball, I highly doubt college football will gain any strength whatsoever in the South on Friday nights.

I think we would try and keep them on Saturdays so recruits can play their games and then catch us on Sat for an unofficial instead of having to wait until their season is over and hopefully catch one game before deciding to take an OV with us or not.

The only games that frequently (not once in a blue moon) get played on Friday nights are by teams who need an extra boost of media exposure. And just because a team like SDSU or Fresno St. is playing on a Friday night doesn't mean too many people elsewhere are going to watch. As it's been said, competing with high school football can be done, but it's not good business.
