📝 Any chance with Demetrius Robertson?

The kid might be trying to get into Stanford or ND - IF his scores are high enough.....

IF that's why he's waiting, and he DOESN'T get those scores, do we have a chance? He was committed to us at one time.... how much of that was because of Kirby?

Could SURE use another special receiver/athlete in this already GREAT class!

It was mentioned on SECrant that it was posted on BOL that Robertson had contacted Saban and staff sometime this morning about taking an OV this weekend or next week. He was upset that UGA had signed 4 WRs and seemed it would be too crowded. The staff seemed receptive to the idea since we didn't hit on our WR targets. So, I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I remember Jeff Sentell from his days of covering HS sports for The Birmingham News. I see that it didn't take him long to work the spin for UGA. No mention in there that Robertson was a one time commit to BAMA and that Saban and staff are serious contenders.

At the end of the work week, last week, I was told he'd called the staff Thursday to set up yet another visit for yesterday.

As of this morning, it looks like that didn't come to fruition—for what's reported to be his fourth scheduled visit.

As I understand this, as it's been pretty widely reported as well, he's waiting on that SAT score.

*Personally, I see the staff looking towards the JUCO/Grad transfer possibilities and an addition to the WR corps in the next few weeks.

So it sounds like he has a slot until he does not have a slot. If a suitable GT or juco receiver becomes available we take and the door is closed.

The nearest I could figure, we have 11 wide receivers on the roster. Is that not enough?

Where are you getting the 11 number?

Off the top of my head ...

  1. Kief,
  2. Falkins
  3. Ridley
  4. Charlot
  5. Stewart
  6. Sims
  7. Foster
Those are currently on scholarship (and were last season.)

Simmons was an EE and is considered a true WR. Diggs and Jennings are considered ATH, but I can see them falling into the WR rotation.

That gives Bama a total of 10, but how many of those 10 have experience? That's one of the reasons you see Gehrig joining the Tide in the summer.

There's no only a depth issue, but a significant experience issue in my eyes.

(Have I missed anyone?)

I haven't bothered to look and see if Robertson is in Athens this weekend. IF he is, that means he's taking his fourth official visit.

The last I heard he was supposed to receive his SAT scores this past Thursday. I've not seen any update on whether he made the score he was after.

Speaking of the "score he was after..."

IF he does get the additional 100 points on his SAT—giving him a 1500—that just begins the application process at Stanford. It would also put him at the bottom end of the scale of kids trying to get admitted.

If no one has the time to look and see where he is this weekend I'll look for it when I get off work in the AM.

Austin Johnson, torin marks, purifoye, jonathan rice, jamichael willis, Thomas woods. I was just looking at a roster when I found the 11 wide receivers. I don't know if these are walk ons or scholarship players. I was really wondering how many wide receivers a team carries and how that compares to Bama's situation.

I was thinking strictly scholarshipped players.

Like I mentioned earlier, we're short on depth.

It varies per school/offense on how many scholarshipped guys they keep on the roster. A team like TTU carries anywhere from 16-20 WR's depending on the year. Same with a school like Baylor.

It has varied from year to year by a player or two. Saban's MO seems to follow the line of having three deep per position with a few 'shirts waiting in the wings. For a comparison, look at the DB's on the roster. I'd bet we've got around 20, if not more, on scholarship.

For the 2015 team, there were 15 secondary players on scholarship, if you include Ronnie Clark.

As far as receivers, you would think it would be a bit less - Saban uses 4-5 secondary players on the field at one time, usually 3 receivers, occasionally 4, at one time (not counting TEs here)....

There were 10 receivers on scholarship.....

Thompson as a WR is still up in the air the last I heard.

He practiced there in the spring due to lack of depth. He was told he'd have a shot to see the field—as a frosh—if he played WR. If he stayed at safety, he'd likely be looking at a redshirt. In the end, he 'shirted.

His high school coach still believes he'll be a safety.

Personally, I don't think we'll know the final answer until the fall though we may get a good indication in the spring. My guess is he will end up practicing with both position groups.

FWIW, he's listed as a defensive back on the official roster at rolltide.com

Still hoping we get the Robertson kid that was the focus of the thread. Looks like he skipped is UGA visit due to basketball tournament game Friday night. Possibly another game this weekend that could keep him off campuses again. We could really use this kid, IMO.

He took the SAT again, and he's planning on taking it one more time is the last I've seen.

Wish Thompson would have started at DB. I hated it when Bama let Cyrus waste a year at WR; it was obvious he had a higher ceiling at DB.

I got five innerweb dollars says Thompson will land at DB, and be a darn good one at that.

Grabbed this off of Bama board on the rant. Glad he's finally on campus and enjoying himself.
