šŸˆ An unmentioned improvement under new OC Daboll that's paying several benefits

Don't take this as a knock on Kiffin. He was dealing with his own issues as OC that did create a bit of a learning curve for the offense. I'll touch on this is a second.

One of the things I've watched from game one has been the communication of the offensive staff with Jalen and Tua. It's fairly routine through four games to see the play already called in from the sidelines and called out to the offense with 12+ seconds still left on the play clock.

Now, Kiffin had his issues with Blake. Along with Blake struggling to learn aspects of the playbook, Blake and Kiffin had their issues getting plays called, etc. Last year we saw some of the same but then we were watching a true frosh at quarterback, right? So, Kiffin gets somewhat of a pass in my book.

Now, think about the offense and what I mentioned earlier. The team has been very efficient getting the plays in, called, etc. this season.

Ah, but the other benefits from a very improved communication/relationship between OC and QB also means the lack of...

Illegal formations...
Illegal motions...
False Starts...
Delay of Game...
Coaches calling timeout just before the snap to avoid penalties...

In my opinion a lot of this can be attributed to the organization and attention to detail we didn't see with Kiffin. Along with that, a lot of what we're seeing has to do with Daboll working, for years, in a system that requires that organization and detail.

Oh F*ck Terry it's about time you came around....

Kiffin's play calling system was literally the worst I've ever seen in my life. The QB spent the entire game moving & shifting guys around and rushing to get the snap off under 2 seconds. Impacted rhythm, confidence, execution.... On and on.

Now that there's an adult calling the plays it's nice to watch. Yesterday was a thing of beauty... Especially the second half when the O was under center with the ground and pound. Daboll seems like a really good dude, humble, and the players like being coached by him. Props to Saban for that hire, even though the FSU play calling stunk lol

I could not agree more, and how about his philosophy to spread the ball around ? Kiffin would go around his elbow to get to his ass in an effort to get the ball to his designated playmaker. That of course led to big-time numbers for Amari and Henry etc., but probably not the best system for keeping an entire offense tuned in to a ballgame. Love seeing so many different RB's and WR's score TD's in the game.

The key to everything on O is the OL, and this week we saw what is possible if the OL plays to their potential.

I've noticed it too. Things aren't as frantic on the sideline. Organization is the key. You eliminate all of the presnap penalties, etc. Kiffin did call some great games, but he did have moments where we looked like chickens running around with our heads cut off as well.

I don't think it's possible that you could have misread what I wrote this badly.

There are two different things at work here. One, your opinion on what you like on offensive play calling and two, what Kiffin called.

To say his was literally the worst you've seen in your life is a statement that ... geez, come on, man. :smh: It's just not true. If you want to say you believe there's been mistakes in play calling along the way, anyone who disagrees with you will be disagreeing with your opinion. There's mistakes in play calling in every freaking game.

Great points, @TerryP and everyone else for that matter.

The 1st 3 weeks, everyone was asking what our identity was offensively.

I think we saw that identity begin to materialize yesterday. Look at how much tempo we ran, especially in the 1H.

I love passing numbers and watching our QB develop amd mature. Gotta be honest, though. I was digging the HUSM (Hurry Up Smash Mouth) yesterday. We saw a lot more pistol as well.

I'm referring to the play calling "system"... the actual plays are another subject. So we're on the same page. Just took a while for you to get there. . All those issues you named in your first post that have been fixed were complaints I've had for years.

Name a more frantic, hectic, unorganized pre snap routine than Kiffin's at Alabama... With multiple QB's... :popcorn2:

Saw a lot of that against Florida State--sort of like the framing of a house in week one.

And it's time for that.

Think about it in these terms for a minute. For years we could get a pretty good feel for the team when Bama played Arkansas--third, most of the time fourth game of the season.

'11 we saw Trent running hard against Arkansas, AJ doing what needed to be done in the passing game on specific downs, and the defense begin to pin their ears back more and more as the game progressed.
'12 Bama dropped 52 on them in a shut out (looked at that game in comparison to this past weekend's...no comparison.)
'15 It was the fifth game against Georgia with the loss in week three pushing them to learn who they were.

Within those specific seasons, I never once disagreed with problems that were evident. On many occasions I pointed out what they were after (IE: jet sweeps to move linebackers) and I've also pointed out "we don't know what he's looking at" when it came to his calls.

Specifically, in Blake's season, I pointed out where he was having a hard time with the book. We discussed in detail those first few games adjustments that were being made. (Cards, wrist bands, Blake to the sidelines) Yet, this "frantic, hectic, unorganized pre snap routine" also contained some of the best play calling we've seen.

And, I don't believe there's any argument to be made about the offensive coordinator, the play calling, and the quarterback falling into a very nice rhythm in '15.

Very organized and effecient with the 2nds too
You're bringing up something that jumped out to me while I've been watching bits and pieces of the game today.

Often, later on in the game, we heard Gary and Brad refer to the offensive linemen as "third teamers." While they may have been the third player to play that position that day those guys aren't what I'd call "third teamers." Guys like Lashley and Leatherwood have worked with the one's, and a lot with the two's this year.

I know...semantics. But still, it's painting a confusing picture for those who really listen to what the guys on TV say.
