I came close to mentioning Penn State last night in the other games thread.

They had a stadium shot with just a few minutes left in the game. This was before State had scored their last touchdown which didn't do anything more than make it look more respectable. The game was far out of reach before that score.

My point is this. That stadium was still packed. I was impressed.

Nobody in that game will be going anywhere at the end of the season. Penn. St. would still need two score to win the game. With that being said, why couldn't the network go to the Bama game? Miss 2:00 min of the game. But, when the girl was about to interview Coach Saban. The network go right too sport center and one of the host make a joke about cutting off Coach Saban.

They were live by the time the ball was kicked and there were still a few ticks left on the clock in PA. If you wanted the pregame stuff, you could catch it on ESPN News.

Next time, just check around the ESPN stations.

ESPN having its contractual obligations with the B1G and advertisers is something to keep in mind as well.

Yup.

i don't understand why our fans leave early unless its a close game right until the end. As fans we demand our players finish and play for a full 60 minutes but we don't hold the same true for ourselves. Shame really.

Penn State fans are one of the most loyal respectable fans you will ever meet

I was upset about that, I realize the student section left early at half to go party and enjoy homecoming...but the others? Many complained about the cold, but this is against your rival and they're undefeated, IDC if we're up 24-0 or 14-0...You have too stay and support your team

My father and his friend went to the game. It was his friend's last Bama game. He only has a short amount of time due to cancer. It's not quite as easy for him to have to sit around and have to deal with the mass exodus of the stadium. It's easy for people to bitch and complain about people not staying 60 minutes, but remember just because you have the ability to it doesn't mean everyone does.

My wife and l left mid through 4 th qtr. Had to be up early today so we tried to beat traffic home. Get over it Whine about something else!!!

I think it will continue to irk people so long as there is a waiting list for season tickets. I gave up waiting on them. Most of the older people I know who have season tickets leave early and do not make any noise whatsoever. If they are going to go why not make some noise by cheering for your team or why drive and deal with the traffic if you're going to leave by halftime? I can understand if people have plans later in the night or early next day but its not like everyone has that excuse. It's gone on for years. Saban sees it and called us out on it. It's part of what sold Alabama to him . Yes we are complacent fans for the most part and I wished BDS was a fearful place to play for opposing teams but that's not the case. Hopefully one day it will turn into a formidable place to play. I can only think of a few games that I sat thru where it was deafening loud and packed full for an entire game.

It did seem to be fairly loud, especially in the first half. The TV did a good job of picking it up even in the 4th quarter. :a:

BTW does anyone else notice that loud moo sound some guy is making? I know they use speakers on the field but it doesn't seem like a cheer leader. I hear it every game no matter who is covering it.

I grew up on campus, in the shadow of our stadium (literally). I was embarassed by our "fans" leaving like that. Everyone has a good reason I'm sure, but those reasons usually stink of selfishness. Most of the time.

I never said it was a common occurance. Just that people have issues. Would I love for BDS to be more loud and for the fans not to leave? Sure, but life is life and at the end of the day it's one or so quarters of football. Everybody shouldn't be lumped into one big pile of "fairweather fans." All I'm saying is kudos to those who stuck it out, but don't expect everyone to be able to. Also, I'm not sure what you growing up in the shadow of the stadium had to do with any of that...

But I will admit to over reacting a bit. It just struck home a little bit and hit a nerve.

I will say that if you don't plan on staying at least UNTIL the 4th quarter then you should at least give your ticket to someone who would enjoy it. The student section makes me just shake my head sometimes. If there's one section that should NEVER be empty it's that one.

My thought on the empty seats are like this, the 3 sections on the South endzone upper deck that belongs to students, take them back and fill some that are on the waiting list. Those haven't been full all season. As far as people leaving early, IF they paid the full price for the tickets, let them leave whenever they choose. I chose to start walking with my wife with about 10 minutes in the 4th. By the time we got out of the stadium, there was only a couple of minutes left. We also had a 2 1/2 hour drive home. Some of those games that are blowouts, I'll sometimes stay and then others I won't. In a couple of weeks, I'll take my daughter to only her 3rd game. It will be for her 10th birthday. Chances are, we will leave early, before the final horn because she will be tired and ready to go.

I personally thinks its a huge mistake to put a portion of the students in the upper deck. They aren't going to fill it. Might as well sell them. As for people leaving early. Sorry but its mostly the I gotta beat the traffic crowd! You are going to a college campus to watch the #1 team in the country. There is going to be traffic, plan on staying around. I've found in my experience that sticking around campus a little longer gives the roads time to clear. Every schmuck trying to be the first out is what causes the jam as it is.

I drive from North of Atlanta to Tuscaloosa and back the same day for every game I attend. I've done it since 2001. The traffic has gotten worse and the parking situation has gotten worse. But its the same story. And yes we do have a lot of fans that sit on their hands. They've always done it so nothing we can do about it. I do not believe the I was there with Bear generation is the we gotta make noise group. But the newer fans get that aspect of the current game. Yes I know I've seen plenty of old timers yelling and screaming. But I see a majority eyeballing you for doing it. I'm not saying they don't have a right to be there, just an observation. Trust me I've gone to games with my dad and he fits in the I don't need to yell and we are leaving early category.

I too think they should sell that section off. It never fills up but this game should of had at least some of that section filled with students. It was homecoming game against an unbeaten SEC opponent! It was embarrassing when the blimp showed the overhead shot of the stadium just prior to kickoff and it was a HUGE empty student section :icon_twisted: :no-no:. In contrast, TAMU folks may be a little weird but I will say I'm impressed by their 12th man fan base.

I also agree nothing will change for the fans that sit on their hands and don't make any attempt to cheer, except for when Sweet Home Alabama is played or when we score a TD you might see a pulse in them. When I was at Western Kentucky game I had many people giving me the evil eye for cheering loud and making noise. One girl behind me did nothing but talk about her shopping experiences over the week and what outfits she bought. She did this the ENTIRE freaking game and it drove me nuts. Why go if you're not going to pay attention or at least let someone sit in that seat that is there for the team and experience. Some were also complaining the piped in music was too loud and apparently not to their liking or taste. They forget these are 20-something year old young men out there and the target audience isn't the senior citizens (no offense to anyone here in that age). I don't particularly care for rap music either, or at least today's rap music, but I understand that's what they are into these days so I have no issues with it as it's trying to energize the crowd in some regard. I am just glad the loud annoying elephant sound effect has seemed to die and disappear or at least I don't recall hearing it during the Western Kentucky game nor have heard it over the TV broadcast.

On the plus side, you know we have a good team any time these types of topics come up rather than discuss or complain about the quality of product we fielded on the team :td::a:

But we are a spoiled fan base, no doubt about it. Our fans need to learn to cherish these great moments in our program because there will come a time when we will have regression at some point.
