🏈 Alabama's Saban wins Dodd coach of year honor

Alabama football coach Nick Saban won the Dodd Trophy today for being the coach of the year.

The award honors the head coach whose program embodies scholarship, leadership and integrity, while also having success on the playing field throughout the season.

No. 1-ranked Alabama is set to play No. 4 Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl on Thursday. It's also a College Football Playoff semifinal.

"His success on and off the field this season made our decision an easy one," said Jim Terry, chairman of the Dodd Foundation in a press release. "He represents the pinnacle of coaching achievement. At Alabama, he has not only built an exceptional football program, but has prepared a community of young men to be leaders in the world, ensuring that coach (Bobby) Dodd's legacy will continue for generations to come."

Saban's Nick's Kids Fund has distributed more than $4 million to more than 150 charities since 2007. Nick's Kids has awarded more than $600,000 to state and local organizations this year.

The Crimson Tide has an Academic Progress Rate of 975, which ranks third in the SEC, and a graduation rate of 80 percent.

Seven members of this year's team earned their master's degree and 22 will play in the Sugar Bowl with their degrees.
