Not that I'm pointing out something you guys don't know. I do readily admit, I get hung up on stats a lot. And, I'll also readily admit, they don't always tell the entire story.
But...
One thing I didn't include here is something that jumped out at me.
Out of the top tacklers on the Arkansas defense, most (as in four of five) are found in their secondary.
Before you think "Georgia threw the ball a lot" consider this.
Teams facing Arkansas have thrown the ball a little more than 40 times...they've ran the ball around 75 times.
To say the least, I really have a lot of questions about their defense: both against the pass and in this case, specifically against the run.
Secondly, there is some attention being paid to Dennis Johnson, their kick return guy. Here's a case where the stats don't tell the entire story.
He's averaging 35 yards per return so far this season. That number is really boosted by a 91 yard kick return to start the season against Missouri State. Setting that number aside, and considering how we've looked on special teams, he's averaging around 20 yards on his other returns.
There's a question mark on both sides of that discussion.
Last, but not least, I mentioned 3rd downs and the number of times Arkansas has punted this year.
If you look you'll see their punter has a 50 yard boot this year. But, he's only kicked the ball over 40 yards twice. On the same note, he's had punts less than 30 yards two times as well.
Their punting game, in my eyes, is a mistake waiting to happen.
