We’re only one year into the New England Patriots-Tom Brady breakup. So far, Brady is winning after getting Super Bowl No. 7 on Sunday night when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9.
If Bill Belichick wants to add to his collection of rings, he’s going to need a long-term option at the quarterback position. Cam Newton was an excellent player for a long time, but his days as a starter are numbered.
Considering they won’t pick until No. 15 in the 2021 NFL Draft, their chances at Trevor Lawrence or Zach Wilson are slim. Justin Fields or Trey Lance could still be available, but it’s possible that the most logical quarterback for New England will also still be on the board.
So, who is that quarterback? Mac Jones.
From a physical standpoint, there are a lot of similarities between Jones and Brady. What we don’t know is whether Jones will have Brady’s rare mentality and approach to the game. But building around his physical skillset is something New England is used to doing.
He’s not overly mobile, and his arm strength isn’t considered elite. But Jones does a lot of things well, including mental processing and identifying where to go with the football. Would the Patriots be interested though?
Jones says he already has some connections there. He joined Peter Schrager of the NFL Network to discuss his journey, and his answer when asked about his fit in New England was interesting to say the least.
Jones is one of the most intriguing prospects of this year’s draft. At one point, most experts assumed that he would still be available for the No. 15 spot. In fact, some even viewed the Patriots taking him as a reach.
His draft stock continues to climb, however, and many are wondering if he’ll still be on the board by the middle of the first round. If he’s there, New England should pull the trigger, even though they’d still have work to do around him. The weapons in that offense are limited right now, and a stationary quarterback needs guys who can create and get open.

Alabama QB Mac Jones May Just Be The Perfect Fit For New England
