CBS Sports released its 2020 Preseason All-America team on Tuesday, which was comprised of players from teams that are still moving forward with playing the 2020 football season.

With Alabama as one of them, the Crimson Tide led all schools with five first-team selections and nine overall players on the team voted on by CBS Sports and 247Sports writers.

Wide receiver DeVonta Smith, offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood, linebacker Dylan Moses, cornerback Patrick Surtain II and punt returner Jaylen Waddle were named to the first team. Leatherwood and Moses were among the nine unanimous selections. Running back Najee Harris and offensive guard Deonte Brown landed on the second team.

Waddle accounted for three of Alabama's nine spots on the preseason All-America team, as the junior was also two-time, second-team selection as a receiver and all-purpose player.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence was named the preseason Player of the Year (Moses received votes), and his head coach, Dabo Swinney, was the preseason Coach of the Year.

Dayum! I don't ever remember a player receiving two spots on an A-A team, much less three.

Jaylen Waddle excited to take on larger role in Alabama offense

Waddle is entering his junior season with the Crimson Tide and is set to take on an increased role after serving as the fourth receiver the last two years. The Houston native has spent the offseason “working on his craft,” according to cornerback Patrick Surtain II.

“He’s going to play a very big role,” said Surtain during a Saturday Zoom call. “He’s a special player, and we’re looking forward to competing against each other every day.”

My first guess was Woodson with two...crazy considering his punt/kick return skills gave him the Heisman but it wasn't good enough to garner AA status in the same position: he received it for his defensive back position.
