šŸ“” Alabama Hockey moving to D1 status (AAU Hockey)

?!? I must have missed something. I went to the presser Bama hockey held a few years ago where it was announced they were moving to D1.

The last few years, there's been a D1 and a D3 (like a JV team). The D3 actually lost to Auburn in '22. Shame...

Discussed this on here before... no idea what the profit margin is for the rink/arena in Pelham, but I sure wish Northport would find a way to build a similar ice area here... They are always looking to get something that Tuscaloosa doesn't have... seems an ice arena would be perfect, and it would draw in a lot of folks from Tuscaloosa which = more tax revenue. Obviously, it would be a great fit for the Frozen Tide though... which is really all I care about.

Remember that this is a club team (not much money, if any). When you build a business, you need to develop paying customers so that you can pay off construction costs and pay operating costs. Closing the rink for practices doesn’t help you make money.

Properly managed, it does. An ECHL team uses a local rink for their practices: majority of them in the mornings. It's a shared facility with the public along with local ice skating clubs, local hockey clubs ... tournaments for kids. In a month or two the US will hold qualifying for figure skating at the same location.

I've been to the Penalty Box a few times: fairly nice scene.

That's why I wonder how much Pelham makes with it, among other reasons. I don't even know how the gate for the games is split up... but the few games I've gone to, the place was packed. I'd imagine if they ever did build one here, it would be under Para's umbrella, and if that's the case, no chance Tuscaloosa allows it to be built in Northport anyway.
