Alabama head football coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff were blamed for Jalen Milroe’s failures after a 19-13 loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl. To make matters worse, they were blamed by a Nick Saban-era star: two-time champion linebacker Joshua McMillon.

“The Jalen Milroe disrespect is crazy! Not to blame the offensive line but this mane clearly was pressured and put in situations to not succeed,” McMillon tweeted. “Look at this gameplan vs Georgia’s or even LSU. Got to understand the game!”

Milroe was not sharp on Tuesday, throwing multiple interceptions and losing a fumble in the first quarter. The Crimson Tide never crawled out of that initial 16-0 hole despite firing back with 10 unanswered points in the second quarter.

To put it all on him is likely overextending, though.

DeBoer and offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan didn’t possess the kind of imaginative schemes that’d propel this uber-talented roster to any significant playoff run. Alabama nearly blew a three-touchdown lead against Georgia due to a stalled-out offense. The Tide later couldn’t produce a single touchdown against Oklahoma with a chance to earn a College Football Playoff spot on the line.

No matter how you slice it, DeBoer and Sheridan’s system was a poor fit with Milroe and vice versa. Tommy Rees got more from him in 2023 and was still criticized by Alabama’s fanbase. There’s no coming back from the season the Crimson Tide offense just had.

Even if some think Milroe needs one more go-round in Tuscaloosa in 2025 after tanking his NFL draft stock.

I've been cognizant of Alabama football since I was around the K4 age. College football? Call it third, fourth grade. A RABID Bama follower comes along with my senior years in high school.

I've watched Bama, the NFL, the USFL, the CFL: a list that goes on here. And, there is one thing I have never seen.

When a QB takes a mental time-out, when he just goes blank and it looks like he forgot some of the simplest things...I've never seen a head coach, a QB coach, or an offensive coordinator be able to change that mindset within four quarters of football.

I understand from where Joshua's frustrations come. It doesn't include the fact that quarterbacks have "checked out" of games throughout history. There isn't an explanation most of the time: it just happens.

And no one, not any stinking coach recognized that. Furthermore, did nothing to help the Oline, QB, RB or receivers. The coaches just left them to flounder and embarrass the players, university and fans. This coaching staff should be made to have a bare assed spanking, ON THE QUAD, with espn broadcasting it! Or maybe just left on the tarmac! I’m sorry I put most of the blame on Milroe. This coaching staff did not prepare the offense correctly, but also didn’t recognize when to make any adjustments in this game or any game that was lost!

While I agree, to an extent, that there were poor coaching decisions made. For me it falls along the lines of...at some point in all of the losses Milroe should have been pulled. He is a fantastic athlete, but he is not consistently a capable QB. One day he may be, but the past 2 years have shown that he hasn't mastered the fundamentals the position. The thing I question the most is...how badly does a coach want to win when he doesn't replace a player who becomes a liability to the team...

Dude, ESPN would just show someone else on the quad dressed like a bumblebee, while the play was going on!

We didn't need a OC for Milroe. We need a F Magician.

I'm at the point where I just don't want to be Alabama fan of the football program anymore because of the way people have acted in the last 24 hours, attacking Milroe and CKD. People are taking it out on them and you know what? CKD learned lot of valuable lessons this season and I wish Jalen well in NFL. Milroe wasn't great this season, but the way they went at him... whew. just.. disrespectful.

Some of the reactions I'm seeing on social media in the last 24 hours has been disrespectful.

I know there will be changes made within the program on and off the field, and I know CKD will take care of that. Things didn't work out the way it didnt for the team, and now starting going forward, they get clean slate and all eyes will be on CKD going forward.

I'm tired of the whining about Milroe, CKD, CNS. I can't wait to see what kind of the offense coming out in the spring with different personnel, staff.

This will be the last time I"ll ever comment on Milroe... I wish him well. I hope he does well and prove lot of people wrong... he's a good kid.

my advice for the Bama fans: Simmer down. step away. stop comparing everything to Saban. Ya'll need to adjust to the new era of the football or quit watching. Stop blaming it on LANK, NIL. At end of the day, either you watch or you don't.

I'm doing my sad music walking away ...

Have you read any of the in-game threads in the last 6-10 years? The only difference now is that most didn't have the balls to mention Nick, they just blamed everyone else. (And some have called for Nick to step down after the last NC) I'm sure other fanbases are similar. There are a LOT of "HIGH TIDE!" people in our fanbase currently - we used to call them band waggoners.
Things have changed now. Is it ok to criticize professional players & coaches?? Guess what, college players & coaches are professional now.
When you accept the money you are an employee (no longer just a good kid).
I hate this new era of college football & I won't be surprised if I end up walking away from it if it stays on this same trajectory.
I think we are seeing a combination of this feeling along with the effect of being spoiled for so many years.
On the other hand, people are reacting like stock holders in a company - ask 50+ how much it costs to support U of A? When you invest in a company & it does not perform you have an inclination to get pissed off.

That's the point. I've never participated in game thread, never read it because 95 percent of whats posted in there are ridiculous.

You wrote a whole book and I'm not gonna read it . You're not gonna convince me or anything like that. Ya know? Sometimes failure is what's need to shock the program and I'm not worried about it at all. At the end of the day it's just a fucking football.

Good lord, you're displaying the failing attitude the program doesn't need. Just gonna walk away. I think I know the underlying issue here, but I'll let you share that when you hit the point of sharing with everyone about why.

LANK was always very cringe and stupid. You want to prove to the world you are a bad ass? You put up or shut up. You don't make implicit or explicit statements saying you are about prove the doubters wrong and then shit your pants in public.

And brother let me tell you this: Jalen Milroe is a great kid, but I am going to start holding these multimillionaire semi pro athletes to a higher standard since they make more money than someone on the SMU Poney Express payroll.

A man's game pays a man's price. And while that may not apply to Jalen Milroe, I hope shitbag maggots like Miami's QB (what he did was downright dishonorable) internalize that.

If this is truly legitimate, I'm at a loss since I taught 10U players last year, and continued to teach it at 11U this year, to not tip where they are running with their foot direction and how to come off the ball every single play the same (run or pass play). How does a D-1 athlete and what some consider a high round NFL draft pick not see or notice this, or have better habits? Can anyone that has paid attention verify or refute this?

At least LANK is true NIL as designed

I disagree. I hate that you feel that way about LANK.

If true the coaches have to fix it.... that is on them.

If you have never participated how do you know? I do not participate either BTW but I would occasionally go back and read the last 2 or 3 pages. I suspect your point is still valid just based on human nature and emotions getting the better of people in the heat of the moment when things are not going well.

As far as peoples response to this year, are you really surprised? Again one of those human nature things. All fanbases have those fans... I try not to be one of those but occasionally I may get close to that line.
