First play could have easily been determined for every game prior to the beginning of the season. Run the ball against every team except ut, lsu, and the barn. Maybe a$m also. Play action against those teams.

When I was coaching, our HC was our OC as well. We chatted it up ALL week about going play action and hitting the deep post the first play from scrimmage. Friday night comes and we win the toss and take the ball. Well, we fumble the kickoff and only make it out to our own 23. Now the HC is second guessing himself. I signaled in all plays and he asks what I thought. I told him,”Coach, you’ve been telling the kids all week what we were going to run! Don’t let them down!” We ran the play and 77 yards later, the ass kicking had started!!! We went on to win 35-0!
