Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron isnāt getting his hopes up on his odds to win the Heisman Trophy this year. McCarron, who was named one of six finalists for college footballās most prestigious award, assumes that Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is going to take home the hardware. But he also says that he doesnāt need it to know what heās accomplished. Hereās what he told reporters Wednesday afternoon:
"I'm pretty sure Jameis Winston will win the Heisman. But I don't need an award to know what I've achieved."
He added that he still thinks Alabama is the best team in the country, despite the Tideās Iron Bowl loss.
"We feel we are the best team in the nation. Even if we're not in the national title game."
By any other standard, a one-loss season, a Sugar Bowl appearance and a Heisman Trophy nomination would be an unbelievable set of accomplishments. But itās clear that McCarron is disappointed with the way things turned out this year.
