* * Albert Breer of the NFL Network spoke with one scout who actually compared Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron to Tom Brady. Assessments of McCarron are all over the map, which is strange for a player with as much film out there in such a strong conference. It might be because many of his strengths aren’t tangible. The aforementioned AFC college scouting director said he doesn’t understand how McCarron isn’t the overwhelming Heisman favorite, then offered this assessment: “Good size, outstanding touch on all throws, can make all the throws but only has average arm strength. Average running ability but very good feet and movement in the pocket to avoid sacks. Outstanding progression-read quarterback, makes throws to his second and third reads consistently. I still think it's because he's just not flashy enough. Guys like Jameis and Manziel define their teams. AJ is just as vital to Alabama football as they are to FSU and TAMU, but when people think 2013 Bama football, they think running backs, defense, etc. AJ is almost an afterthought. It's a damn shame. But any Heisman hopes he had are probably out the window now.
