šŸ“” A Bit of New Light Shed on the Cam Rob/H Jones Situation?

I will say this. I have been involved in several situations that have been published by the media. I have also been privy to first hand information of many other situations that were covered by the media. Not one time did they (the media) get the facts correct, when they published incidents. This includes standard newspapers, TV, radio, blogs etc. I am not condoning nor condemning Cam or Hootie, because I know that I do not know the facts of the case.

Same here. The media rarely has the full story.

The question isn't if they get punished, but how much? The punishment needs to be appropriate for the crime(s) but also to make a statement. How many times have we seen other schools put a slap on the wrist as punishment for a serious crime? I don't think CNS wants to be that kind of school. Whatever is announced, I guarantee that there will be additional elements we don't see.

Make a statement to whom? Fans of other SEC schools that are watching this story?

I'd like nothing more than hearing Saban say, "it's none of your damn business" the next time he's asked about their situations. Internal is just that, ya know?

So, as some have said (notably Erki Evans, an attorney, from RollBamaRoll) perhaps it's not as bad as some of us (I) might have thought?

It's a tough story for anyone to follow and that's magnified by dealing with Louisiana state laws versus those of your home state. The way I understand this if they'd only had the weed, they're looking at a misdemeanor ticket. Having the gun wasn't against the law (aside from the stolen property thing.) But, as soon as both are found together ... click.

Make a statement to players, prospects and the community as a whole that if you violate rules/laws, you get punished. We've all seen violations at other programs and there is almost no punishment (except for maybe a 1/2 game suspension). In reality, we will never know the extent of the punishment because Saban likes to keep things in-house. I admire him for focusing more on the rehabilitation and changing of behavior than the punishing of the behavior but I don't want to see a slap on the wrist.

I just don't see this is a serious issue... The kid has no criminal background and never even been in football trouble according to Saban. Probably bought a cheap gun because that's what he sees in videos and his friends all tote, and never even considered if it was stolen or used in something previously. That will be a misdemeanor and the weed thing is not a big deal. He'll miss a game or two and be a top 5 pick barring injury

focusing more on the rehabilitation and changing of behavior
In my eyes, I see these contradicting each other. Making an example of Cam does what to "focus on his rehab or change his behavior?"

To me, it would seem this example will serve fans more than the player himself. If someone points to Cam, fans can say "look how he was punished." Guilt, or embarrassment, may be avoided by this but I have a hard time seeing it lead to changing his behavior.

Embarrassing someone is the worst means to change behavior, in my opinion.

'Door remains open' for Cam Robinson to play

More details have emerged surrounding Alabama starting left tackle Cam Robinsonand reserve safety Laurence Jones’ arrests last month in Louisiana, according to a report from ESPN.com’s Chris Low. Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban told Low he is still determining Robinson’s status but said ā€œthe door remains open for Robinson to play.ā€

Robinson and Jones were arrested in the early morning hours of May 17 on charges of illegal possession of marijuana and illegal possession of firearms. Robinson was also charged with illegally carrying a stolen weapon.

According to the report, the pair of players had been shooting guns at a range earlier that night but did not take them home. Robinson reportedly bought the gun a year ago, did not know it was stolen but never got it registered.

ā€œIt’s the first time Cam has ever had an issue or a problem,ā€ Saban said of Robinson’s arrest, according to Low. ā€œWe’re handling it and managing it internally and making him do things to hopefully change his behavior. I’m waiting to see how this whole legal thing plays out, because it’s not really what it seems to be.ā€

An arraignment hearing for the duo has been set for Thursday, June 16, at 1:30 p.m. CT in Monroe, La. At the hearing, Robinson and Jones will be notified of the charges against them and will enter guilty or not guilty plea.

By a statement, I don't mean a punishment to beat all punishments. Simply that CNS sees it as a serious matter and will administer a punishment that is appropriate, not just a finger wagging. CNS will put steps in place to change the behavior, but most won't see what those steps are. Counseling and/or community service will be involved as will ongoing testing.
