šŸˆ A benchmark/record Saban is about to break that somehow has slipped by me: err, a lot evidently. (Most career wins by active coaches.)

I didn't realize this until watching Wednesday's CFB Live this morning. It was in reference to Paul Johnson's career and his retirement but the note here is about Saban, of course.

I was also shocked to see Brian Kelly leading this list.

I was surprised myself until I went and looked. A lot off those were not FBS, but Div II. Kelly became a head coach in 1991 at Grand Valley State and went 118-35-2 there from 1991-2003. Since leaving there he is 113-55 at Central Michigan, Cincinnati, and Notre Dame.

Saban became a head coach at Toledo in 1990 but then quit after one year to go to the Browns and did not come back until 1995 at Michigan State.

Congratulations Coach Saban! Toledo, Michigan St. LSU and Bama very impressive.

As a side note, Grand Valley St. was a power in D II football when B. Kelly was there. The Lakers won several National Championships in Florence, AL. during that time frame. He turned a very bad Central Michigan team into a competitive team in the MAC, went to UC and did a very good job there on the banks of the Ohio. Of course, I loved the butt kicking we gave him and his current team in Indiana!
