I didn't even know you could feel a 3.8. I've felt a 5.6 before and that wasn't too much.

Part of the ability to feel an earthquake, and damage sustained by it, depends upon the composition of strata. In the east, a weaker earthquake can be felt farther away than on the left coast because there is more dense, older rock.
