It's probably impossible to track based on the way position names have changed but I'm guessing Smith is setting records for touchdowns and receiving yards for a tight end.

@planomateo Just looked, he's listed as a split end in 1976 and 1977 but was also the All-SEC tight end... I'm not an expert on the wish bone, so was a "split end" in the wish bone just another name for a tight end rather than what we think of it today?

I dont believe SE was limited.to the bone though

That's not what I said. "Split end" is a terminology used for a wide receiver that is opposite of the tight end and farthest away from the ball, but I have no idea how it pertained to the wish bone. In the bone, was the "split end" simply the "end" to the weak side or something like that?

@BamaBoyJosh, my point was I don't know exactly what they called a receiver lining up next to a tackle in the wishbone was... Some called it an end and some simply called it a wide receiver. I'm fairly certain I I have seen Ozzie lineup in what we'd call a tight end position.

If we think about it the backs often lined up in a position we'd label the h-back

Looking at the roster, they have TE, SE, RB and FB listed. Guess we have to look at some old film to really tell.

Just skimming through he lines out wide (still in a three-point stance) and in tight, too.

Updated numbers post Auburn as of 11/24 -- hard not to see us losing some of our offensive coaches with these numbers.
