I know a lot of you guys have ventured over to the Casino on the site here and used it to get out of work, pass time, avoid the wife...

For those that haven't, there are a lot of fun things to do over there. The permanent link is just above this thread, in the tool bar above the ESPN Bottom Line score ticker.

But enough niceties...

In the next few weeks we'll get Week One posted in the Sports Betting room in the Casino. It's going to be a little different this year than just picking a winner of a game.

As example, we'll use a format that mirrors the spreads coming out of Vegas. So, on our game versus VT you'll see two options, Bama -4 or VT+4. You can select which one you want, then wager the amount of money you would like to on each game. (Loans are always available! )

At this point, we'll probably have 10 games per week for NCAA football and then have the Bama game. I'm thinking, although I'm not sure if we'll go to this extent, we'll offer other options on the Bama games...

As example:

  • First quarter score
  • Halftime score
  • Over/Under
  • Total yards, etc.
I've hooked up with a guy all of you should be familiar with so we'll be able to offer some prizes at the end of the season to who ever makes the most in the Casino...

More details to follow. There are no events listed in the sports room today. I'm going to wait for a few more days to see what the general spreads are before I get the first weeks' games up.

Any questions?

This sounds rather ominous. Does the guy you've hooked up with have a family olive oil business?

 Bama fan, sportswriter and author of a couple of books. But, as the season progress, the "prize closet" will grow. So far I've just ordered some books (autographed by author), shirts, bumper stickers, etc...

NOW, if you take out a loan because you bet horribily...there's always Guido...he has the ability to reach through the sit, the 'net, and into your computer and slow it down more than a 56K modem.

I'll be your collection specialist Terry!

A question about the payout. Is it going to be 1/1 or do we have odds?

The prizes sound nice. Are they based on all casino winnings or just sports betting?

It'll be judged just on sports betting. There is a listing/ranking that will list the top 10.

1/1 payouts. Bet a 100, lose a 100. I plan on setting all the spreads at .5 so there will not be any pushes.

Could you put a FAQ on the sports betting lines? Ive never been familiar with how they work.

Yes, I will.

Just as a rough draft, for lack of a better expression...

If you see Alabama -4.5 that translates to picking Alabama to win, and win by more than 4.5 points.

Virginia Tech +4.5 means the opposite.

So, let's say Alabama wins the game 21-20, unless you picked Va. Tech you'd lose b/c Alabama didn't win by enough points (or cover the spread.)
