Three more players leave reeling Tennessee

Three more Tennessee players -- linebackers Will Ignont and Shanon Reid and wide receiver Jacquez Jones -- have left the program.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee linebackers Will Ignont and Shanon Reid and wide receiver Jacquez Jones have left the team.

Volunteers coach Jeremy Pruitt confirmed the exits of all three players Wednesday, one day after multiple reports indicated Reid and Jones had entered the transfer portal.

Ignont, a junior from Huntsville, Alabama, started two of Tennessee's first three games and made 16 tackles but didn't play Saturday in a 34-3 loss to No. 9 Florida.

Reid, a junior from Fort Myers, Florida, had made 11 tackles in a reserve role. Jones, a sophomore from Clearwater, Florida, had one carry for 9 yards.

Five players have now left Tennessee's team since the start of the season. Wide receiver Jordan Murphy and defensive back Terrell Bailey departed after a season-opening 38-30 loss to 26-point underdog Georgia State.

None of the players were recruited by Pruitt.

Tennessee (1-3, 0-1 SEC) has this week off before hosting No. 3 Georgia (4-0, 1-0) on Oct. 5.

while watching the camera pan the stands at a tennersee loss the other day, my wife looked over at me and said in all sincerity as she is not a football follower, "Is he wearing a Whataburger tablecloth?"

Speaking from a non football point of view, I just do not understand these kids. First of all, to be honest, if you are on the tennessee football team and not playing, you probably aren't all that good. If you aren't very good, you probably won't even get an invite to a NFL team. Why not stay put, get your education and go from there. We can laugh and mock at a Tennessee degree, but a degree from a major university still counts for a lot. Especially if you were an athletic.

This isn't your fathers college football players. They will have the memories of their commitment show forever and they can take their smartphone and tweet forever as well. I believe the schools can't cut them off their payroll until the semester/qtr ends. Addition by subtraction.

I hate it for Pruitt. I honestly thought he could have a decent team up in Knoxville. Maybe this is simply draining all the bad seeds, or maybe there is a bigger underlying issue up there.

Saw Ignont play when he was in high school at Buckhorn. He could be impressive at times during games but his effort was up and down. This move on his part does not surprise me.

I hate it for Pruitt but those pumpkin colored bastards deserve everything they get 10 fold!!! Pruitt isn’t a quitter, but you can bet that Fat Phil has already got his knife out and sharpened. It will be in Jeremy’s back soon!!

Been thinking about some of the reports saying Fulmer will fire Pruitt and then appoint himself as head coach. The more I think about it I doubt he would do that. He is revered in Knoxville. If he became head coach, UT would still struggle and the fans would turn on him. Would taint his rep in Knoxville and no way he would be ok with that. Being AD may eventually do the same if things do not change while he is AD. He deserves all of the torment he and UT is going through. Roll Tide!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps it is as simple as Pruitt being happy to see these guys leave (for whatever reason). After all, he did not recruit them (maybe Jones since he is a Sophomore). I would assume he wants his "guys" on the team and to be honest, if you can't handle a bad season, then take yourself elsewhere. We all knew it was going to be a rebuild there, they have not had decent talent in ages it seems. As much as I like to pick on UT, they should be better than this and hopefully they will get back to it.

My apologies to ms50 lol. I probably could have worded it better. In retrospect I should have said any athletic with a diploma from a major university has a great chance at landing a good career

The air inside Neyland is toxic. 2 of my brothers are lifelong 10rc fans. Neither can see any light in the program at all
