They aren't going to be Div I for a few years but they and Alabama could potentially compete for the same recruits. I hope they play each other on a regular basis- makes for an easy road trip for a lot of fans.
They will be playing all home games in Ladd-Peebles stadium which is probably bigger than Vandy's.

Side note: This means that UALR and UNO are the only sunbelt teams without football. I wonder if USA gaining football, and so close to New Orleans, will start the UNO football debate.

I would be willing to bet money that Alabama never plays USA in football.

I wouldn't bet against this man

The only possible way would be if they played in a low scale bowl game IMO.

If I am not mistaken, and I NEVER am 8) , South AL eventually making it to D-1A status could help UA in an unexpected way (albeit somewhat small).

The number of voters in the AP football poll is determined by the number of D-1A teams - and each state I believe is allocated a vote for every two D-1A teams in that state. And in the event of an odd number of teams, then a vote is granted for the odd total (two teams = 1 vote, three teams = 2 votes, four teams = 2 votes, etc).

Thus, with South AL making it to D-1A status, the state of Alabama will get a third vote in the poll (UA-AU-UAB-Troy divided by two being the two current votes). Now, I say this could help UA under the presumption that third voter is predisposed to give UA any benefit-of-the-doubt - which I understand based on much of the state's media is an unwise presumption. But you never know.

Very good point!

Not to mention, having 5 teams from the state of Alabama competing in D-1 football is pretty sweet. :D
