He seems to possess every attribute one wants in a QB. Yes he has great receivers and has to prove some things to some folks this year but I have watched a lot of CFB in the last 40 yrs. and I don’t gush over many players. This kid amazes me

He's the best pure talent I've ever seen at QB (by that I mean arm strength, accuracy/touch, etc.). He also has giant Elephant sized balls and trusts his arm more than most people could even imagine. That also plays into his biggest negative, though. He believes he can make any throw and has that early AJ McCarron belief of not just "I CAN" make any throw but " I SHOULD" make any throw. I keep hoping that he will be able to avoid some of those really bad throws he should never make (he had one against Duke) and just a) check down, b) take off or c) throw it away. I fear there is just a tad bit of that Brett Favre in him, though, so it may not ever fully leave him.

@BamaBoyJosh it is that gunslinger mentality and no I don’t think it will ever completely leave. I think it affects so many other parts of his mental game that he couldn’t operate completely conventional. Not sure conventional is the correct word there.

@BamaBoyJosh, , i was never much a Brett Favre fan, not since he beat Stalling"s team at Legion Field, but Tua would be lucky to have a little HOF Favre in him. I do get your point about being a " chance taker " though.

Tuas great asset is his receivers....yep....strong arm... yep great grasp of QBing...
But how many of his yards are either great catch....or unbelievable run after catch...
His quick release is an asset...and power throw...
But his receivers...they are playing a tremendous role in his success...and padding his stats....and this is not taking anything away from Tua....

Cool topic! Now that it's been a year +, it's easy to take for granted watching him do his thing.

I would agree BBJ that his confidence absolutely can and will get him into trouble. It did against Clemson and Georgia last season... I do think the injury issues certainly played a part but you saw some cracks in him those 2 games regardless.

On the other hand, he's still young and STILL GETTING BETTER. What I saw against Duke was cool because he just took what they gave him... And we saw Saban/Sark literally put the game in his hands when it was ugly early. We must have called 12 pass plays in a row... How many times have/will we see that at Alabama?

Can't say it enough but we really need to enjoy the ride! Watching greatness in a lot of ways. And if he can do what he did against Duke in terms of taking what the defense gives him (were there any near INTs? I don't remember) and still making those explosive completions, then he's going to be even better. RTR

This is true of all good QB though. You see very few good QB that look good on bad teams. Receivers that can't catch come up as incompletions or interceptions against the QB. Ones that can come up as big stats. Don't forget good blocking too. Without it you are not going to complete much at all.

A narrative I keep hearing in the media is that Tua's success is all because of his receivers. Ok yes they are the best but, how many times did we see Jalen throw passes that were completed too late with the receiver dragging a foot in bounds. (Not flames on Jalen). Maybe our receivers are great because Tua gets the ball to the right guy at the right time and they have time to operate in space with the ball. Thus accounting for all the Yards After Catch (YAC)

Absolutely not! Not every QB has great skill set and has great set of
Receivers....and has @rocknthefreeworld mentioned Oline, RBs....included
Some make QB look good..some QBs make recievers look good.. bama has equal talent... and @Bamaclam adds...it is so at bama...
But "every great QB has.....". Absolutely not!"

Every QB that has been great has great playmakers around him. You can be a good QB without great receivers but to truly be a great, elite type of QB he has to have the horses to run for him. You can argue that there are outliers, Tom Brady would be the shining example but even he has had the Wes Welkers and Randy Moss's and others that have been great elsewhere before or after they were with him.

So the QB at Chattanooga made Randy moss look great...really?
Or QB at miss valley made Jerry rice look great.... really ?
Just not true Probably a lot of examples but so what. Just not true.....period
Are a bunch but ..... not...."every great QB" as you stated

Can you please show me where I said anything similar to that? Because I didn't. Like not even close. Sure, I'll agree something that I never actually said isn't true. Yeah, you're right.

Side note, Randy Moss did not play at Chattanooga either...

Wasn't it Marshall? Chad Pennington? He was pretty good
And chattanooga

This is what I disagreed with
Lots of great QB without and lots of great recievers without great QBs
And right i was thinking of Terell Owens
Moss played at marshall
