'I don't want to be hated': Banned youth baseball coach speaks out after viral incident
Michael Ryals, a youth baseball coach banned by a national sports organization after a viral incident, talked with USA TODAY Sports about the matter.www.usatoday.com
Looks like he's trying to shift the blame to his kid. Even if I told him not to and he did it anyway I'd take the blame publicly for a 12 year old, at home would be a different story, but as a father and a coach the responsibility would be mine.
Yeah i read it. Imo a coach/father tells a 12yo if he's seriously considering throwing that ball he's benched and he's getting another conversation at home. I would've never revealed what was said between us even if he weren't my kid. I'm the coach, I'm responsible."Just kids being ruthless kids," Ryals said. "I don't think any kid should be in trouble for what they said, but he (Ryals' son) reached his breaking point.
"He told me he was going to throw the ball in between innings and I said, 'There's consequences for it. You should really think that through, but there is consequences for it."
I think the Dad's a POS and has never fathomed or even uttered the word "consequences" in his personal and parental behavior. It's the internet, yes, but I did see something that suggested the Dad has had prior charges and should've never been placed in a position of authority over anyone's kids.Yeah i read it. I'm stuck on two words; "thought police." It doesn't sit easy with me thinking "a parent should police the thoughts of their kids." I mean, heck, it's impossible to start, right?Yeah i read it. Think everyone who has ever played sports has thought about doing something he shouldn't have due to smack talk, losing, dirty play, etc by the opposing team. I've thought about knocking someone's teeth out on the field several times, trying to bust a guys knees, etc. I've never gone to my coach during a game and told him I was going to do something blatantly dirty because I couldn't control my emotions. It isn't thought police imo, it's seeing a kid about to do something stupid that could affect his future and preventing him from making that choice. 12yo kids don't always make the best decisions so sometimes you make decisions for them. I'm still of the opinion that the coach is a liar and he told the kid to throw the ball but we will probably never know the truth. I'm also of the opinion the coach made a huge mistake, as a coach and a father, by discussing what that kid said with anyone else except maybe his mother.I'm stuck on two words; "thought police." It doesn't sit easy with me thinking "a parent should police the thoughts of their kids." I mean, heck, it's impossible to start, right?
But, here's my struggle. A kid had the thought. The dad said there will be consequences. Here I am thinking there should be consequences to the thought itself. But. A punitive consequence to a thought? Eessh ... .
I got caught up on this thought train myself. I can see a kid throwing at a batter because we've seen it so many times in baseball.12yo kids don't always make the best decisions so sometimes you make decisions for them. I'm still of the opinion that the coach is a liar and he told the kid to throw the ball but we will probably never know the truth.

SRO, with adults parked on the berm, 1st base line? I don't remember the recorded all time attendance record. I do believe it'll be broken this weekend.Ahh. Should be a really good atmosphere. Will be interesting to see what the final number of tickets sold is.
I thought about the panic button when I made the post. But, panic found in no beer sales on Sunday's and people panicking after the game Saturday night!I thought about it last night but hit the panic button instead and went with 2 seats off of SeatGeek instead for the Saturday night game.
If the weather is good, I expect the attendance record to be shattered! All seats are sold out and then standing room only tickets being sold. Just need the boys to play to their potential.SRO, with adults parked on the berm, 1st base line? I don't remember the recorded all time attendance record. I do believe it'll be broken this weekend.
I’m sure the Right Field Ragers will be well stocked!!I thought about the panic button when I made the post. But, panic found in no beer sales on Sunday's and people panicking after the game Saturday night!
First pitch at 8, guessing it's over around 11. What does the beer section at Publix look like at 11:59?
I'm equally as sure of quite a few people driving east Sunday morning. "20 minutes to the county line" will be cited as often as benedictions that day...I’m sure the Right Field Ragers will be well stocked!!
