If posters must justify and qualify my questions, ok.

Why do you ask why?

In another string there was discussing the Tebow-factor at UF (i.e. How good would they be without Tebow?). This an age-old question that I guarantee you CNS has pondered about everyone of his starters.

So, realizing that the QB has more influence in the outcome of the game, and realizing that record-holding QB JPW has taken 90% of our snaps, and realizing that McElroy could be called upon to take the helm for the balance of the season if JPW gets hurt...what can we expect from McElroy, measure in wins and losses?

Is my question and motive worthy?

LSU, Aubrun. They would eat him alive.

All things considered that does not sound too bad. With JPW we will likely be expected to drop that one, while dropping AU with a backup would not be a shocker.

This seems to say that we have some level of sound depth at QB.

I don't know that we could say we would definitely lose those. The OL doesn't change, so why would we assume he would be eaten alive? Just to pose a point, the DB's at Auburn wouldn't be any more experienced or more talented if our QB changed.

With games being won and lost on a few plays (unless you are Arkansas, then they are lost by taking the field), I have to think that losing a three-year starter would count for something. Because the opposite side to that coin would seem to say that there is no benefit from having a veteran QB, and I have not seen that point supported in debates.

So have we gained any advantage with three years invested in JPW?

Quite honestly, no but who else did we have. He is the best of all the QB's on our roster for the period he has been at the Capstone and I know that includes Star, who may prove to be an outstanding college quarterback and 10X better than JPW but right now he is the best Saban has. We are 4-0 and have a decent chance to beat the team that most thought was the best in the nation going into this season. Let's enjoy the moment and hope JPW keeps us in contention for the SEC West title.

With our O-line, I believe he would do pretty good. He knows the playbook, as seen when he is relaying the plays on the sideline. I think JPW gives us the best chance to win, but McElroy given more snaps would be fine. Hard to say what games we would win, but I would bet our D and RBs would keep us in every game. They are doing it now without a flashy passing attack.

My "objection" to the thought earlier was to the premise that just because we had our #2 taking snaps it automatically translated in to guaranteed losses.

By no means do I think there isn't an advantage to having JP under center given his experience. If there was one area that I would have concern in re: Greg starting, it would be his ability to read defenses.

All that said, what would be requested of Greg would be quite simple. "Don't lose the game, and don't try to win it."

but jpw is not a good qb. i surely hope he plays over his head this week though.

You and I; different corners.

I hope he continues to play as he has been. His completion percentage ranks among the top QB's in the SEC. His TD to INT ratio does as well.

He's doing exactly what he's been asked to do in the McElwain offense. Those that have problems with what he's accomplished this season have more issues with Coach McElwain and what he asks of his QB than they do of our QB play, the way I see the situation.
