COLUMBIA, S.C. – Alabama softball put on an offensive showcase Saturday against South Carolina, downing the Gamecocks 10-2 to clinch the weekend series.
Alabama (27-4, 5-3 SEC) took advantage of a South Carolina (18-12, 2-6 SEC) throwing error in the second inning to score the first run of the game, adding a second on a
Dallis Goodnight RBI single. Another fielding error the next inning made it a 3-0 lead for the Tide where it remained until the bottom of the fourth, when the Gamecocks' first hit of the day stayed fair down the right field line for a double, driving in a pair to make it a one-run game. In the top of the fifth,
Kaylee Tow bounced a double off the wall in right center, driving in two runners to make it 5-2.
A sac fly RBI from
Ashley Prange in the sixth made it 6-2 before
Ally Shipman sent a ball to the right field gap, bouncing off the glove of the diving center fielder and allowing her to hustle all the way home on the inside-the-park home run, scoring two to make it 8-2.
Jenna Johnson made it 10-2 with a two-run homer in the seventh before the Tide defense retired the side in order in the bottom half to close out the win.
Tow posted her second multi-hit game of the weekend, now batting 4-for-7 with four RBIs in two games against the Gamecocks. Shipman's inside-the-park home run was the ninth in program history and just the third to occur away from Rhoads Stadium. Prange also extended her hitting streak to eight games, one shy of her career best.
Lexi Kilfoyl (5-2) got the complete-game win, holding the Gamecocks to just two hits.
