Academic endowment does not have any bearing on what a school is capable of paying a coach.  A school having a billion dollar dollar endowment is not unusual.

The reason for the wealth of Wake is in large part due to their medical school.  Med schools are expensive to operate and require a significant endowment, and you find that more reputable academic institutions have larger endowments.

Harvard has a $25 Billion dollar endowment...can or will they pay $2M for a coach?  Yale is $15 Billion. Columbia is over $5 Billion and they had the longest losing streak in college history.  Northwestern is over $4 Billion.

In the SEC, Vandy has $2.3 Billion.

Asbury Theological Seminary is around $100M-$150M and it is strictly a graduate school in Theology, Biblical Studies, and counseling.

The point is, the premium placed on athletics at a school with less than 5,000 students and a stadium of 31,500 that is rarely sold out, is significantly lower than what would be needed to fund a $2M coach.
