Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports just annouced that a source close to him said that Tennessee is ready to make a major splash with its next hire.

Anyone know who they might of got in the middle of a season?

Personally I don't think anyone could make a bigger "splash" than Fulmer

Brian Kelly at Cincy is a name I've been hearing.
If it's a "big splash"...then it's Butch Davis! He's the guy they want more than life.

I'm guessing, Butch Davis is the "splasher" in question.

How is Kiffin a splash? Leach would be huge. Especially with everything going on. And he is the only one who aint denied interest.

 I hope he would'nt pull a Fran.

Some stories going around that they were hot-and-heavy after Bill Cowher (ex-Steelers coach).

Cowher was at one time in line to replace the Carolina Panthers coach, but that may not be as immediately probable as it was a year-or-so ago. Cowher may have tired of sitting out. He is currently available.

I am not saying it IS Cowher, mostly because I think he is and always will be an NFL guy; but a retired Super Bowl coach (did they win, I cannot remember) with Cowher's history would qualify as a 'big splash.'

Seriously, is there a name out there that would strike fear into us or the rest of the SEC? My guess it that the most respected name would be Leach, but even there I think the Coaching collective of the SEC would quickly figure out him out quickly. And then, having the defenses that the conference fields each week, he would have a hard time making it to the top here. Don't get me wrong, I think he is sound, but as a "splash" just isn't out there to be had IMO.

A couple of thoughts here...

"Ready to make a big splash" doesn't always lead to "making a big splash." I have to hand it to Hamilton for picking up a hire like he did with Pearl but I also have to weigh that against Buzz Peterson, Jerry Green, Kevin O'Neill, Wade Houston, Don Devoe...point being, it took a few misses before they hit a winner.

This thought is going to require some help. When is the last time, or has there ever been a time, when Dennis Dodd actually broke a news story? Seriously, I have to question whether he actually has a "source" within the UT program other than an email exchange he may have had with a forum owner.

I just this morning read the actual blog posted by Dodd. And the best thing you can say is the post is a dud.

No names. No facts of any kind.

Good gosh, how do people who write that tripe get a job and keep a job? Has 'journalism' really fallen that low?

Of course, this is 'CBS' we are talking about. A network that allowed its network news anchor go on the air with faked documents to use as proof that a sitting president was AWOL from his military duty some 30 years earlier. Why would anyone think they would hold one of their 'reporters' accountable for something as trivial as this story.

In the midst of the greatest revolution in information technology it is becoming HARDER to find truth and facts in journalism instead of EASIER. I can understand the clutter coming from any idiot with a PC and an internet link creating static, but good gosh the most static comes from the supposedly credible media.

Sorry for the rant, this probably belongs in the politics forum, but this 'breaking news' story is the genesis.

You quickly learn who to read, who to believe and who to ignore. Since I made my post, for the hell of it I've looked through some google links for Dodd on what I considered to be "breaking news stories" in the last couple of years.

I've yet to find one where he was "out in front" of anyone when it came to publishing news.
