(WILL UPDATE WHEN MORE INFO IS AVAILABLE)

** UPDATE: 10:31 a.m. I’ve caught wind that some are saying my sources are Volquest. That’s ridiculous. They’re not. Am I concerned about the validity? Obviously, you would be. But I trust that it’s true.

**UPDATE: 11:12 p.m. The names thrown out there of assistants who will leave with Fulmer are OL coach Greg Adkins, DL Dan Brooks and DB Larry Slade. Also hearing that it’s possible that if it leaks (blush, blush) it could be announced earlier than the end of the season. Go Vols!

Very reliable sources have informed 3SIB that Vols head coach Phillip Fulmer WILL NOT be retained at the end of the season. Likely, an announcement won’t be made until after the Kentucky game.

Big AL it's a blog bro. :D Not the best source, besides, we want him to stay, we have to try for a 3 peat

As this continues to go on I am starting to believe that Fulmer will be gone before the end of the season. If you'd asked me a week or two ago I would have thought probably 60% chance that he'd finish things out this year (with a coach agreeing in principle and ready to come in emmediately following the season's end). Love him or hate him, he's been a part of UT athletics for as long as most people can remember. Normally in a situation like this the coach would be given the chance to leave in a more face-saving way. I'm not sure Foolmer will get that opportunity, though.

This may just be the reality of big-time college athletics. No more loyalty, no more fooling around. Now it's solely about the bottom line, and what have you done for me lately. universities don't have the luxury to stand pat any more and wait till the off-season to fill vacancies. Recruiting has become a 12 month a year business. Off-season workouts and programs have made college football much like college football recruiting. There's no time to waste in this day and age, and Foolmer may be seeing that first hand.

With college teams (some in the SEC) looking to fill vacancies, Tennessee just doesn't have the luxury of waiting.

This may not be anything, but the thought that occurred to me is that Tennessee has the luxury of knowing, that Auburn does not YET have, is that the current coach will not get it done against rival Alabama.

Schools have been busted for shopping for a new tenant before the old tenant has been evicted. I'm wondering if this is the reason schools are pulling the trigger so soon (i.e. trying to be the Christmas rush). If/when Auburn fires Tubberville, Coaching in the SEC will be a sellers (the coaches) market.

If UT tosses Fulmer now, they will already be trailing Clemson and Washington. Both coaching jobs do have attractive features, so they can not be dismissed as competitors.

All this goes to say, I can see the logic behind Tennessee pulling the trigger early...if they do.

Three-peat? I want another 10-peat!!!!

I know I'm a nobody when it comes to "in the know" stuff and you may take this as just another rumor (which it very well may be) but a good friend of mine, a Tenn season ticket holder for over 20 years now, told me that he talked to one of his college buddies, a big booster for Tenn, and said that Fulmer would resign after the homecoming game this year. Like I said you can take it with a grain of salt if you want.

I don't see them letting him go before the end of the season unless they can pull the trigger on a high profile replacement right now (or before seasons end). Like someone said earlier, he is a big part of UT athletics and as much as I like to see him suffer, I don't think they will do it til seasons end.

I will believe it only if it comes from the Phat Man himself. I say goodbye and good riddance to him when he does leave.

I will wait and see.

I don't put much faith in sources...

...souces however...

I'm glad this time around it's some other school having to put faith in souse!! :D
Yeah but a dark crimson souce is much more potent than a watered down orange souce.

My souce has told me Fulmer is gone before the end of the year. Of course Master Yoda might not really be in the know on this one.

Telling you what he said, I am.
