Six different players scored in the road win for the Tide

RUSTON, La. –– The Alabama soccer team opened the 2025 season on Thursday with a dominant 6-2 road win over Louisiana Tech.

The Tide saw goals from six different players as Ashley Roni, Cali Brewer, Avery Brown, Gianna Paul, Maddie Padelski and Soph Martelli all found the back of the net.

From Wes Hart:

"Great win tonight. I thought we had some very good moments in attack. We created a lot of good chances and scored some really nice goals. To have six different goal scorers and six different assists shows that we have a lot of dangerous weapons and can score in a variety of ways. We've been on the road for three straight games. We are definitely excited to be back in Tuscaloosa Sunday to play in front of our home crowd."

How It Happened

  • Ashley Roni opened up the scoring off a cross from Gianna Paul in the 10th minute of the game
  • The Brewer sisters connected on a corner kick as Breezie Brewer found Cali Brewer on the back post for a header in the 40th minute of action
  • Just eight minutes into the second half, Avery Brown placed a header into the back of the net off a corner kick from Melina Rebimbas
  • Reagan Roberts notched a goal for the Bulldogs with her shot from distance finding the back of the net
  • Maddie Padelski played a ball down the line for Paul to run onto and take towards net for Alabama's fourth goal of the match
  • Louisiana Tech's Madison Pensom took advantage of a corner kick by Meava Costenaro but Padeski received a cross from Roni just 30 seconds later to make it a 5-2 game
  • Soph Martelli would close the night with a goal in the 79th minute off a rebounded shot from Kiley Kukan
  • Overall, the Tide tallied 25 shots to Louisiana Tech's nine
  • UA also paced the game in corner kicks 6-2

I’ll just add this too. I could be way off as I haven’t looked and don’t follow it closely at all. I just see the scores as they post them on social media. But it appears at least, maybe(?) the women’s volleyball team has turned a bit of a corner. I’m sure they are still one of the worst in the league, but I don’t recall them winning as many matches as they have so far this season, albeit against teams they should probably be beating. I guess the conference slate will tell the whole story, but it would be nice if they could at least get to mid pack in the SEC.

It been noticeable enough I thought it might be a good idea to have a "women's fall sports" thread which would include volleyball in this one. As I recall, they've only lost one match this season. SEC play is still a couple of weeks away.

The Crimson Tide will face No. 8 Vanderbilt in the quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 11:30 a.m. CT

PENSACOLA, Fla. – A pair of late goals lifted the Alabama soccer team (11-7-1) to a 2-0 victory over South Carolina (10-4-5) on Sunday in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
Larkin Thomason netted the game winner in the 76th minute of action, while Gianna Paul sealed the victory for the Tide in the 89th minute.

From Head Coach Wes Hart

ā€œSo proud of how our team competed today and grinded out a result against a very good South Carolina team. Probably some of the best defending I’ve seen from us all year. Katie Shae Collins is one of the best forwards in the country and has been a thorn in our side the last three times we’ve played. I knew if we could contain her and limit her impact, we would have a very good chance of winning.ā€

How It Happened

  • An evenly paced first half saw Alabama and South Carolina heading into the break with a 0-0 score as UA held a narrow 6-5 lead in shots
  • Larkin Thomason broke the stalemate in the 76th minute

  • The Tide traded shots with the Gamecocks over the next 10 minutes, before Gianna Paul sealed UA’s victory in the 89th minute
  • Paul battled her way into the box, firing off a shot that was saved by Christina Tsaousis
  • Paul would race to grab the rebounded save before placing it in the back of the net
  • Madi Munguia tallied six saves to record her fourth shutout
  • With the win, Alabama will compete in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament for the fifth consecutive year
