Six different players scored in the road win for the Tide

RUSTON, La. –– The Alabama soccer team opened the 2025 season on Thursday with a dominant 6-2 road win over Louisiana Tech.

The Tide saw goals from six different players as Ashley Roni, Cali Brewer, Avery Brown, Gianna Paul, Maddie Padelski and Soph Martelli all found the back of the net.

From Wes Hart:

"Great win tonight. I thought we had some very good moments in attack. We created a lot of good chances and scored some really nice goals. To have six different goal scorers and six different assists shows that we have a lot of dangerous weapons and can score in a variety of ways. We've been on the road for three straight games. We are definitely excited to be back in Tuscaloosa Sunday to play in front of our home crowd."

How It Happened

  • Ashley Roni opened up the scoring off a cross from Gianna Paul in the 10th minute of the game
  • The Brewer sisters connected on a corner kick as Breezie Brewer found Cali Brewer on the back post for a header in the 40th minute of action
  • Just eight minutes into the second half, Avery Brown placed a header into the back of the net off a corner kick from Melina Rebimbas
  • Reagan Roberts notched a goal for the Bulldogs with her shot from distance finding the back of the net
  • Maddie Padelski played a ball down the line for Paul to run onto and take towards net for Alabama's fourth goal of the match
  • Louisiana Tech's Madison Pensom took advantage of a corner kick by Meava Costenaro but Padeski received a cross from Roni just 30 seconds later to make it a 5-2 game
  • Soph Martelli would close the night with a goal in the 79th minute off a rebounded shot from Kiley Kukan
  • Overall, the Tide tallied 25 shots to Louisiana Tech's nine
  • UA also paced the game in corner kicks 6-2

Gianna Paul scored the game-winning goal in the opening eight minutes of action against the Mocs

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ––
A goal from Gianna Paul in the opening eight minutes of action propelled the Crimson Tide (2-0-0) to its second victory of the season and first at home as Alabama claimed a 1-0 win over Chattanooga (1-1-0) Sunday.

Paul challenged a ball played back to the Mocs’ goalkeeper, winning it off Caroline Ekern for the tap in.

From Wes Hart

Not our best soccer tonight, but we will take the win and move on. We pride ourselves on energy, work, activity, etc., but tonight we looked a little bit flat from the opening whistle. Credit to Chattanooga though, they made it hard on us.

ā€œI thought the crowd tonight was fantastic! It was so great seeing the stands packed for our home opener. We will certainly need them on Thursday when we host Michigan.ā€

How It Happened

  • Paul scored her second goal of the season, in as many games, with less than eight minutes coming off the clock
  • The UA senior would chase a ball back towards net, before winning the trapped ball from Ekern
  • Paul continued her pursuit, tapping the ball in uncontested on the back post
  • Alabama would continue to dominate the game, pacing the Mocs 26-5 in overall shots and 10-0 in shots on frame
  • Paul and Nadia Ramadan would tally five shots apiece during the game
  • Paul is now tied for second in school history for career goals with 30 and ranks third in career points with 68

The loss was the first of the season for Alabama as UA battled the Tar Heels in a rainy Thursday night match.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –– The Alabama soccer team (5-1-0) dropped its first game of the year on Thursday, falling 4-0 to No. 23 North Carolina (5-2-0).

The Tar Heels recorded a brace from Kate Faasse as well as goals from Olivia Thomas and Bella Devey in the match.

From Head Coach Wes Hart:

"We ran into a good team tonight and they showed us why they are the defending national champions. I was pleased with the start of the game, but as the half wore on, they got into a rhythm and we conceded too much territory and possession. At half, we made an adjustment to commit another player higher, which kind of left us a bit more exposed. We will learn from this and get ready to take on another very good opponent on Sunday."

I guess UNC still has it. 4 - 0...Ouch.
I've only looked at the box score and saw a 12-9 difference in shots. It reads like it wasn't one of their nights. 7-7 in the second half.

We'll get a definitive answer this weekend on how good they are right now. UNC, followed by Duke? That's a row that's going to be tough to hoe.
