I haven't seen this posted and the only link I can find is on Bama Sports Report and on EDSBS, but it seems that Simpson Pepper, the longtime voice of the Tide at Legion Field and at BDS, passed away this morning. Condolences to his family and friends.

Also the voice at Bryant-Denny. He was a legend and didn't retire and leave campus at a time of his own choosing. He was effectively run-off campus when back-'em up Bob Bockrath was in charge. There will never be another Simpson Pepper.

Younger fans will never realize how great Simpson was especially since the only PA announcer they have been exposed to, Tony Giles, has that engineered voice that is annoying.
