I have a great link about #37. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawn_Alexander

What it did not reveal to me though was who all recruited him, what was his star ranking and what was the general buzz about him comming out of highschool?

I ask this in reference to some of our outstanding tailbacks recruited this year.

Thanks in advance.

**I think it is important to note how GOOD his career has been until this last year or so. Watch for him to go overlooked when it comes to Hall of Fame voting after his career. His numbers indicate that he is easily one of the top 10 backs of all time if not a top five**

Just from memory, he was pretty highly recruited. I didn't pay much attention to the ratings back then, but I'd say he was at least a four start. I know that Kentucky was pretty ticked that he didn't want to stay home, but other than that I ccouldn't say who was recruiting him. He was considered at the time to be the best running back the state of Kentucky ever produced. He came in towards the end of the Stallings era, and did not play a great deal as a freshman, though he did lead a fantastic comeback against LSU in his freshman year.

I remember him being highly recruited as well. He rushed for over 3000 yards as a senior and was named Kentucky’s Mr. Football. Other than Alabama and Kentucky, I know Spurrier at Florida was after him so he must have had plenty of options. I would say he must have at least been a Four-Star recruit.

Just as an FYI, Kentucky’s Mr. Football is usually a pretty highly ranked recruit. Here’s a look five of the last six:

Michael Bush was a 4-star QB converted to a RB at Louisville.
Brian Brohm, I think we all know him and remember he was a 5-star QB out of HS.
Curtis Pulley was a 3-star QB and likely starter next year for Kentucky.
Micah Johnson was a 5-star LB who has been a back-up so far at Kentucky.
Douglas Beaumont was a 4-star WR who signed with Louisville.

That distinction however is not a guarantee one will be highly recruited. This year’s Mr. Football in Kentucky was 1-star Corey Robinson who ended up signing with Troy.

If memory serves me correctly it came down to Michigan and Alabama. I remember reading one time that he said when he stepped off the plane in Michigan that it was snowing........That was a strike against the wolverines according to Shaun.

I just finished reading his book and it was in fact down to Bama, Michigan and ND. What sold him was that everyone he spoke with at Michigan had a "ho hum" attitude about the place and ND acted like they couldn't care less about him. His visit to Bama was surrounded by people who were on fire for University of Alabama football and wouldn't be anywhere else. It also helped a lot that he found a church home in Tuscaloosa where the other schools never even broached the topic.

yea i think he was one of the top recruits that year, but he did play alot his freshmen actaully. he didnt play as much his sophomore year (Dubose first year) as he did his Freshmen year.

Curtis Alexander was the starter during Shaun's freshman year, wasn't he? I was sitting in Tiger Stadium in 1996 when Shaun lit up LSU for 291 yards.

I think that is still our single game rushing record.

And the next year he was in Dumbose's dog house and barely saw the field. What a backfield we could have had with him, Riddle and Alexander.

I found another wiki on Shaun
